Feeling like a Complete Failure

Published

Hi everyone I have taken the Nclex pn 2011 format twice now and I have not succeeded. Ive let my family and my job down. I made A's n B's all during nursing school but for some reason I cant seem to get over this hurdle. But Im refusing to give up.. Any test taking stratgies anyone has to offer will be greatly appreciated. I have the following books, Exam Cram, Saunders, Kaplan, Mosby, and Hesi. For my test I used the NCSBN website as well.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Sorry to hear you have failed

My suggestion is take a short break from studying and give your brain a rest. Next look at a study plan and look at practicing questions and reading the rationales (even if answered correctly) only study a subject if you are having problems answering the questions. Only use 1 or 2 resources and don't over do it

hey, I think you are using too many studying resources...its best to focus on just one or two...

When it comes to taking your NCLEX...just breathe! Before you even start your test take a deep breath, hold it, then slowly exhale. This helps with the nerves. Try and clear your mind and don't add any extra stress on yourself.

When you answer the questions, make sure you fully understand what is being asked of you. Don't feel that you need to speed past the questions take your time. If you don't know what the answer is pick either C or the answer that has the most words. (I know sounds weird but it works)

As for studying, you could be over studying. You did fine in nursing school, you know this stuff. Now that you are at this point I think you should just practice answering questions. Take the disc out from the Saundars book and answer the questions in study mode. I found this very helpful because it gave me rationales. I would answer at least 200 - 300 questions per day. This is what I did and I passed.

I have faith in you. You can do this. Don't let your nerves get in the way. Good luck!!

At Glenna Thanx so much Im doing the Hurst Review and it is helpn me tremedously...I will keep you posted..Thanx everyone

Don't give up and always have confidence in yourself, you can do this. I agree much with what Glenna says, stay calm and remember to breathe.

I agree. Too many resources is just overwhelming.

MAZEL TOV !

sorry to hear that, but yeah that is right never give up.

I just recently passed my NCLEX-VN. I studied Saunders and Mosby, all i did was to read the whole book and answer questions as much as i can on the CD that comes with the book. Be sure to read all the rationales even you get it right. Try to schedule the time that you wanna study, i usually study in the morning for 4 hours and after that i had to relax because our brain get tired also.

Try to focus on your weaknesses it really helps! Good luck to you! :)
