Fears

Hi there! I really wanna be a nurse but I'm afraid to do the job like putting the IVU, poking the patient with a needle, seeing blood and other procedures that nurses do.

Is there a job for a nurse that will not require you to do the above stuff?

Yes, there are.

However, you still must experience these things in nursing school... and there's no getting around that.

Yes there are jobs where you don't do bedside care - - case management, informatics, educator, manager, quality improvement, research, etc. But you still have to go through clinicals in school, and most positions require you to have experience. Needle sticks and blood just need some getting used to. But if you really want to avoid those, maybe you should re-think if you really want to be a nurse.

Yes, there are lots of ways to be a nurse, but you have to go through certain experiences in nursing school. You see, nurses have to have a common base of experience to grow from and if you don't have those experiences it will be difficult for you to be a nurse in those other fields, even if they do not involve those things that you find less than appealing.

With time, training, and experience you will find yourself probably more comfortable with doing those things. I did not say that you will be comfortable with it, rather that you will be more comfortable with it than you are now...

As someone above me said, if you cannot come to grips with the possibility that you will have to do some things that you are not comfortable with, you really should rethink the idea of becoming a nurse.

I wish you all the best of luck!

You must ask YOURSELF why you want to be a nurse.

Nurses do not soothe the fevered brow or fluff pillows. Or such "stuff".

We work like dogs 24/7... present at the beginning of life and the end of life... and everything in between.

It requires a great mind, a great heart and great courage.

Only YOU know if you have what it takes.

If you want to make the patient comfortable, keep them clean, give oral medications...look at a CNA or med tech. If you have a problem with blood & procedures, it is going to be a tough road in nursing school
