i say go for it!!!! like i said before your life should not stop because of nursing school, you just have to learn to jugle it all efficiently!! I dont know if you believe in God, but time here is precious, and with his return possibly coming at any second you dont have any time to waist!! get on with your life girl friend, nursing school is just a bonus! you cant take it with you!

Happppppy Belated Birthday Tanya!! You could not have said this any better!! The time that God gives us is certainly precious and my motto in life is..."To Live Every Moment as if it's our last". What have we got to lose??

Okay...so first of all CONGRATS to all you who are going to be getting married or having a child in the midst of nursing school. Thats such an exciting thing!!! Now..I feel like the one kind of out of the loop as far as marriage and children are concerned. I am fixing to be 20 on the 29th. I'm still single, but dating alot of guys. I love my life right now and wouldn't trade it for the world. I'm hoping to graduate nursing school at 21, get on my feet, and experience life. I have had soooo many opportunities to settle down with various individuals, but I don't. I have this goal and I want to reach it, then my life will be open to marriage and children. It's like I can't let myself have those things until I get through this. Is that weird??? I'm not saying I wouldn't let myself fall in love if the right person came along, but I'm just not looking for it. If it happens, then so be it. What are everyone's thoughts??

Well, that makes perfect sense to me. As I said, everyone's got a different path. I got married at 19 to a godly man and it was the right time for me. Lots of people wait and experience life a little before marriage and/or kids. Pros and cons both ways. Don't feel weird. We're all in different situations. More power to you for getting this thing done without the stress of marriage and kids. Wish I could've done this before kids but I was teaching preschool and youth group and majoring in education. But you never know what's down the road. You'll always have a job available, though, with a nursing degree.

Thanks!! I think you're right and everyone has a different purpose in life. I'm just grateful that this program is only a year and 4 months. That makes things a whole lot easier. And I'm quite excited about the job opportunities. I've thought about Travel Nursing..it pays great and it just seems sooo exciting. Well on another note, kudos to you for doing this while being a wife and mother. You defintely earn my respect!! Your going to do a great job!!

Ok, it's a rant coming up. Anyone getting the run-around for financial aid? I don't qualify for a Pell Grant and have been to worksource. Is there any sort of funding available thru FCCJ without the Pell Grant? It's a pain to call and everyone tells me something different. Has anyone had any experience with any other type of funding?

If you actually turned in your FAFSA (even if you didn't qualify), then you should be able to apply for scholarships. I'm sure there is stuff other than that, but I'm not sure.

Pregnant during nursing school??? I wouldn't advise it. Cheryl James was right, you can only miss 2 clinicals (and they have to be made up) NO EXCEPTIONS! A guy in my group lost his mother during the semester and had to fly back to the Phillipines to tend to family business, missed his clinical time, therefore had to drop. On the other hand, a girl had a baby in Term 3 and has made it thru. But she wasn't allowed in clinical until she was cleared by her doctor (OB). And the time between semesters is short, no breaks, except at Christmas. And the fatigue......the days are longggg. I'm just saying that any missed clinical days must be made up and anything more than 2 absences and you have to drop, no exceptions.

There is a possibility that there will be 12 hour shifts in Adult Health (Terms 2 and 4) for 8 weeks and 12 weeks respectively. There are already 12 hour shifts in Peds and some OB clinicals.

As far a planning a wedding during spring break, be very careful. A friend of mine in school planned her wedding during the college's published Spring Break but they changed it. She ended up having to move her honeymoon because of it. So be cautious.

I turned in my papers the other day and they couldn't find folders for any last names starting with P,R and S. They just stuck my folder where it should be and I'm hoping it doesn't get tossed. Um, disorganized anyone? Seems a little unfair that we have to get these minute little details right yet they can lose a whole section of folders and it's not a big deal. It's going to be a long 16 months, ladies...

Well, I've got my papers all turned in, and gotten all of my stuff... well except the uniforms from Meridy's. Apparently, we don't get those until September.

But, any hoo... how about that "skills kit"? A bit pricey for what you get in there, but at least I've got it now. I kept wanting to rip the packages open and practice giving people shots... go figure. No one will let me near them in my house now and I can't figure out why.

Now that I have nothing to do or get anymore, I feel a little blue. I'm afraid I might be coming down off my high. Now I can't wait till orientation in 2 weeks... ho hum....

In Term 1, you will have 4 classes-Concepts, Assessment, Pharmacology and Techniques. The Techniques class is the clinical. The first 8 weeks of techniques is learning in the lab (still a 7-3 class) and then the 2nd 8 weeks is when you are out in the hospital, the "clinical setting". You can only miss 2 clinical (hospital) days.

For Term 2 Adult Health (the class is split with Psych), you go into clinical immediately at the start of the semester. For Psych, it will be dependent on your instructor and what facility you'll be out (psych facilities are limited).

Now, here is the caveat to all of this-we now have an interim Director of Nursing. There is no telling how many changes she will implement right off the bat. I know Pharm is going hybrid and concepts is a hybrid class (my group screamed the loudest about the concepts class being online). Assessment will never be online, too much hands on needed.
