Fall 2020 El Centro Nursing Program Applicants

Hey Everyone!

I wanted to start a new thread for Fall 2020 applicants at El Centro, since I didn't find one already here. Let's see if we can help eachother out and answer some questions for eachother. Currently, I have 35 points, but will be applying with about 40, I believe. I'm wondering if that is competitive? Also, I need to get my physical, titers, and vaccines, but don't have health insurance. Any ideas where I can get them done at a decent price? I found a website but I am not sure if they will accept stuff from there....

Hi guys, I will be applying to the el centro college program for Spring 2021. I just want to know if y’all know any good Microbiology teachers that I should take?

Good luck for next week’s results!

Nannette Cooper is a really good teacher! Micro is very hard to do online though

Alice Zhou at Richland is awesome. I had never taken any classes at that campus so I was iffy, but she is very active and has extra credit assignments that help with your overall grade/understanding of the topic. Lots of great lectures to go with her PowerPoint notes and plenty of reviews for exams and quizzes.

Hi everyone!

Thursday can’t get here fast enough ?

I have a question for those who are currently in their first semester, what were the nexts steps after you’ve accepted?

Oh WOW! thank you so much you guys are so helpful! Sorry you had to take it and waste money. I was just gonna test out of it since I don’t have time to take the class.

FWIW, I know if you transfer via Pathways to UTA for your BSN, you will need Bio 1406 and it was a bugger. ?

Hello! I am a Northlake student currently in the program. You must make a 78% and above for each course overall. 100% in math competency exams to progress in each semester. Also, end of the semester exit HESI score must be 900 and above! Hope this helps a-little!

Hey! Could you explain what kind of questions are on the HESI math exams? Is it pharm math or algebra or similar to the questions on the HESI entrance? I am not awesome at math but ended up getting a 98 on the HESI entrance which surprised me.

Two more days, everyone!

For the Methodist/El Centro Cohort there was a phone/zoom interview (it was 2 weeks ago) and they confirmed the notifications for the cohort as well as El Centro will definitely be on April 30.

Good luck everyone and I hope to meet many if not all of you in person soon!

From what I understand it is an end of semester Exam(s) that help with NCLEX prep.

Sure! You will have an exit HESI each semester. This is nothing like the HESI A2 entrance exam. The exit HESI is comprised of everything you learned that particular semester including math. It’s 85 questions 10 are pilot, meaning only 75 count. This resembles the NCLEX. The math is pharm math (dosage calculations). Must know conversions and how to set up problems. You will get a book in your package to help with math and your skills teacher will help. I will warn all of you now the book package is about 3k to be paid in full all first semester. No you cannot do payment plans. If you qualify and use financial aid make sure it is set up ahead of time to help pay for it. Let me know if any other questions arise! Good luck to all of you! I’m excited to see you guys around next semester.

The HESI isn't scored like your lecture exams will be. It resembles how the NCLEX is scored. It’s not how many you get right per say it’s how the questions are weighted that will you you the points you need. Getting the higher weighted questions correct is what helps you. You need an overall score of 900 to progress in each semester. Hope that helps (:

Does El Centro ever hang out with the Methodist/EC Cohort?

All of that information will be given in your acceptance letter. You will have orientation and on that first orientation you will get to “pick your clinical site”. Not really, it’s first come first serve by lottery pick.
