failing. Lord help me?

Published

Week 3 semester one and I'm flunking out. I'm so depressed and ashamed. I really just get these depressing chucks of hopelessness. I believe He put the dream of becoming a nurse in my heart. Lord please give me the intelligence to do this. I know I'm lazy and apparently am not studying enough (hello!) My self confidence is just crap now (it was fine before I started 3 weeks ago... ahhh.

Well, there is a slim chance I won't flunk out (very slim) or have a mental breakdown (or both). God be with us! Off to study.

:sniff:

Peace!

What are the reasons for your struggles? I know that at my school, if you're scoring below a C the instructors require you to have a conference with them. I know some nursing instructors can be intimidating, but most of them have your best interests at heart. :) There are a lot of resources out there that can help with nursing school test-taking skills. ATI's "Nurse Logic" is the one that we use. Not to mention all the NCLEX prep books and online resources to be found.

First off, God does not help you to study YOU DO!! A great number of students have doubts about their decision to attend nursing school after a couple of bad test grades. Most schools that I have heard about (mine included) do not care about individual test grades, but the overall test average. My advice is to spend less time feeling sorry for yourself and concentrate on the material in front of you. Another great tool for nursing school would be to join (or start) a study group.

God won't award you the lottery if you don't buy a ticket. You admitted you are lazy and not studying enough. That is actually really great, that you can admit that to yourself. You just pointed yourself in the right direction. Pray to God instead to give you the courage and fortitude to change those bad habits and pursue this with everything in you...and then ACT as if that has been magically awarded. It isn't intelligence - it is work ethic. Find it.

I couldn't agree with you more! Nursing school expects a lot out of you. It is going to push you, make you think. You have to keep your confidence up and keep telling yourself that if you really love this, then you are going to do it!! I'm graduating in the spring, and trust me I've had my bad moments but you can't let those get you down. You are only just starting your first semester, once you get used to a new way of studying and going about changing your way of thinking, it's going to be alright! Good luck and study hard! It will all be worth it in the end!!

When I was in school I studied about 6 hours a day, that was after school and work. Nothing lazy about me. If you are lazy, you will fail. You also won't be a good nurse. A LOT of people flunk out. Our class started with 52 people and we graduated 14. Out of that 10 passed the NCLEX. It's not for lazy people. Think hard on what you want and do it.

You need to figure out why exactly it is you're not grasping the material. If you're failing, your instructor should be more than willing to sit down with you and go over previous work like tests and help you to figure out some of the issues you are having. Maybe it's the way you study. You've already noted that you're not studying enough, but it could very well be the way that you are studying. Most colleges have people who can work with you at test taking and studying skills.
