I failed Nclex 6 times..the crazy thing is the past 5 times my results are coming bk as NEAR PASSING in all 8 areas..I know I know this material but prioritization questions/Safety and infection Control is what keeps confusing me..If i have a pt on Airborne precautions..I know that person will be placed in a private room with Negative pressure..I also know that you will put the pt on a surgical mask if they had to be transported..So being that said if both of these options are in the answer choices then which one do i pick?? AND... What would u check first hypertension or pulse (both high) I would think BP....I can narrow down to the last 2 but looks like im picking the wrong one. I dont understand what i am doing wrong...maybe i need a break. AND..some of the questions im reading are giving me answer choices that are not even relevant to the question yet ARE IMPORTANT....thats another place im keep messing up on..IM LOSING MY MIND PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

If the answer is not relevant to the question, rule it out...don't read into questions.

A mask is going to do nothing for an airborne precaution patient, air still passes through the mask. An airborne patient would not leave the room. That is a silly question anyway because so few things are transmitted that way. Imagine you breathe recycled air all day, everyday.
According to my Med Surg book...IF you have to transport a pt out of the room they would wear a surgical mask..this is for a person who is on Airborne Precautions. The nurse would need to wear special respiratory protection..EX N95 or HEPA..Now if im reading this wrong please tell me..
Thx for the feedback:nurse:

Hi If you failed 6x you need to have divine intervention. Pray to St Joseph of Cupertino & I can assure you that you will definitely pass.

Take a break. A good break. When you come back to it, look at a different strategy or plug away at it and rely on persistence to do its job. Good luck.

hi Anijah
Ive recently took my NCLEX PN for the 5th time on 3/30 and got a good pop up so knowing the PVT is accurate & its a sign that I pass, I'm still depending on my official results.
Now I do agree on praying the St. Joseph of Cupertino because im doing that before & after i practice Qs or wen im about to take my exam. I'm not a good test taker either and i get very anxious whenever i take tests. Did you ever feel confident coming in the testing center? i've reviewed Hurst and as far as infection control practice on LaCharity that really helps. And theres one more reference I practiced on b4 my 5th (hopefully my last:uhoh21:try) is Davis Q&A..its for RN but I find it useful. I'm pretty sure you know about the mnemonic for infection control but yes i do agree with the previous post to not read into the question cuz thats what i kept doing the 1st few times. Days b4 my exam date i read over Hurst Test taking strategies, same with Davis i reviewd their strategies/notes as well..btw the Qs seem harder too than NCLEX.
Theres a forum about Davis book and what ppl thought bout it thats why I decided to practice from it:D
My favorite Hurst test strategy is "If you have a priority question pick the killer answer" or "if you hav a fluid problem then you have a heart problem" etc.... don't give up... I was about to postpone my test to April but i had my friends who are already nurses &allnurses encourage me to go & take it already cuz of the new passing standard for PN... i do agree when most ppl say that whatever you study wont end up in your NCLEX exam jus practice Qs etc and i read frm Davis, take deep breaths count 1-5 then 6-10 when u start getting frustrated & close ur eyes and just pick the BEST answer. I also read the Q carefully b/c i tend to read fast w/o thinking wat the Q is asking & eliminate...ok thats my
Once i hav my official I'll write more of my experience thru this journey of passing this unpredictable & challenging exam! ok i gotta get sum beauty sleep jus got off a 12 hour Noc shift so
btw dont forget to pray St joseph of Cupertino or try the Divine prayer it includes 9 prayers for 9 days b4 exam i think my friend wanted me to pray it but i had no time cuz i had only a week left b4 my exam, ok good luck! :)
...oops its not Divine prayer its the Novena prayers...got it confused heres a link i googled... il use it next time

I second taking a break, and praying to St. Joseph of Cuppertino. He has always come through on my high stakes exams.

No she is right. When a patient with an airborne infection HAS to leave the room under special circumstances, a mask would be placed on the patient. And if it's TB an N95 mask would be used. But the patient is to be kept in the room at all costs while infectious, and transporting would always be avoided if possible.
I have the same problem sometimes with questions. Sometimes the answer I'm looking for isn't there, or sometimes two or three answers seem correct. I try and just think critically. First I eliminate the answers that I know are wrong, then I go back to the question and I look for key words. If you are stuck between two options, there is likely a hint in the question or one of the answers.
An answer that reflects the question is more likely to be correct. Look for words in the question that are in the answer or very similar to.
Another thing is to be completely clear on what the question is asking. Sometimes questions get tricky and you really need to keep reading it and be sure of what they are asking. Are they asking you to assess? To intervene? To prioritize?
Hope this helps
