Failed the AANP

I just took the AANP exam and failed! I felt like I was doing a good job throughout the exam but in the end apparently it wasn't enough. I did change a couple of correct answers (about 3) to the wrong answers but still, if I failed, that means more were obviously wrong than I originally thought. I studied for about 2 and a half months and I honestly felt ready. I'm so disappointed in myself I feel so stupid. I have the opportunity to take the ANCC exam but at this point, my confidence is just shot and I feel clueless. the materials I used were the barkley review along with the cds, Amelie hollier with her cds, and the leik book which I felt I understood well. I do not know where to begin. Fitzgerald has an online review but the materials will not be ready until late march. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can use to assist me to be successful on the ANCC? should I use the same resources I just used or put them to the side and start with new material from scratch? I would like to retake the AANP but at this moment im just too scared and discourage. Thanks in advance.

Go back and study. Take the ANCC exam. And take the Fitzgerald course.

I used the Barkley Review and the Leik book some before I took the AANP the first time and I failed by only one or two questions. I turned around and applied to take it again a few days later after completing the 15 edu credits on their website. Believe me I know it is discouraging and it makes you doubt yourself. I took 3 weeks to restudy and take the exam again. Don't wait too long. I study the Barkley and Leik books way more intensely ( actually I studied harder than I ever had before). I started with the Adult/Gero first and then studied certain topics in the peds section. I used a study partner the second time and it did help me retain more. Try not to put yourself down too much, plenty of people fail this exam, it is certainly not easy. The second time taking it I felt like I knew a lot more on the exam. The first time I took it I scored a 493 the second time I took it I scored a 581. I also used Leik's new app FNP Q&A ( its the questions from the book but you can use them on your phone and you can arrange them by topic, and it can give you the answer after each question or you can do the test option without them). Quizlet also has a lot of really good review cards that people have made. (one in particular Kick a** on boards I really liked) there is also a app for Quizlet. Hope you find this helpful and good luck on your retake, I have been there I know how you feel, it sucks but get back at it study like you never have before.

hang in there. some of us just test poorly. i am among them. i took my RN boards twice, i took the national certification for my specialty area twice, and honestly i anticipate taking my NP boards twice. i agree that a review course may help. just wanted to offer some words of encouragement. good luck!!

I had failed.the AANP.for the first time in December so we know how you feel. Most of us have used these resources as well. I have gotten support from.these wonderful people and.have been studying much harder than initially done. I go back for my exam next month with renewed strength and prayers like never before so cry it out, rest, and regroup for your strategy. Best wishes

Thanks every for responding. I'm attempting to retake the AANP exam as well as take the ANCC. So I will continue to pray and study and keep everyone posted. Thanks again!
