Do hospitals and LTC facilities hire brand new graduates? Or do they want tons of experience like everyone else?

LTC's hire new grads all the time. Acute care facilities do too, but you will probably have to work medsurg for a few months to a year before going into a specialty unit.

Specializes in Nursing assistant.

LTC will hire you if you have a pulse. Sorry, couldnt resist.

Specializes in Emergency.

In nursing as well as other areas - experience is beginning to mean less and less. Attitude is what employers are leaning toward now. It's better to have a new nurse who's willing to work with others and learn than an experience nurse who has seen it all but can't get along with co-workers.

Of course, attitude AND experience could make you SUPER NURSE to the employer!

Specializes in ICU, CCU, Trauma, neuro, Geriatrics.

You could potentially be hired in a variety of areas. If you are genuinely interested in a certain area you will likely do well during your interview. Everyone starts out without experience. I am employed at a facility working on magnet status, they hire new grads in all departments, ICU and OR and ER included. Attitude means a lot in this new customer service environment.
