ERI for Jeff State

Published

What exactly is the ERI? I've applied to Jeff State for the fall semester and have read many postings on this and how it's tough to pass.

I don't know...I applied as well and I've never heard of it.

ERI is an NCLEX preparation course that Jeff State (and whoever else) RN students take to better prepare them for the RN exam. I have been told that it is a bear of an exam, or at least is made so by Jeff State. My class- Summer '05- was the last one under the "old" curriculum. We had to take it, but it wouldn't count for/against us. I don't remember if all of us completed it. The next one- Fall '05 (?)- was the first one to deal with it as a requirement for graduation. I have heard from several students that the ERI has caused some of their compadres in several slasses who were passing their coursework to fail out of JSCC. Sounds pretty stupid to me, but that's the way JSCC wants it.

ERI did provide a 3 or 4 day class that was basically a cram session/intensive review of NCLEX-likely material, or at least the general areas. I found that class to be helpful because they presented Q & A's that were generally like NCLEX questions. We could discuss the answers and rationale with the ERI instructor (NOT a Jeff State instructor) and gain at least a glimpse into the way the real question's thought process worked.

I don't know if it helped me, but I passed 1st time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEAH, BABY!!!!!!!!! :yeah: (Not bad for a 52 year old guy). Man, I NEVER want to do that again.

my school uses this...supposedly, it will predict who will pass the nclex

the only guy who scored 'superior' flunked the nclex with 265

i took the pre-rn test...the rationales/breakdown were no good.

everybody pretty much hated it and signed up for kaplan for additonal sources to pass the nclex.

Calhoun uses it as well. I had never heard of it so I asked my mother (a nurse for 17yrs.) and she said that a few years back some schools were passing large numbers of students but they couldn't pass the NCLEX and the schools lost thier accredation for a year. This was supposed to be the solution. I don't know of any schools in AL that this happened to but TTU in TN lost thiers for this reason (TTU is in my home town that's how I know about that one).

In Calhoun's program, ERI is not just one exam at the end, you take them your entire 2 years in the program, you take an online exam, much like a nursing school exam, multiple choice, its timed, and if you score poorely, you listen to lectures on the ERI website and handwrite pages of notes, and then...you must pass the ERI exit exam before you are allowed to graduate.

Exactly the same happen in my school. ERI is not an indicators of passing the NCLEX. It is only an indicator of who has access to their question bank. Or maybe who is lucky. It is a total scam :argue:
