I am a new nurse educator and am looking for resources for EPIC. Like tips and tricks, and how to be more efficient with documenting. Especially with using the Brain function. I have a lot of nurses only use the side bar brain and have no idea how to use the dashboard brain. Any help, ideas, or resources would be appreciated!

Tell me more about this brain thing in EPIC.
I have been using EPIC for a while, and may not have been using my brain.

I personally, HATE the brain function! And I have been told that it will be the preferred way of charting soon.
The new nurses that have been hired in the last 2-ish years, have all been taught the brain way of doing things. I think it depends on how one likes to do things. I am all about lists. I love the work list. Brain is too busy for me.
I would just try and use the Brain and see if you can find your way. I find it amazing that there are so many ways to look at the same thing, in many ways. And don't get me started on the fact that our aides have different screens and so do PT/OT, providers, etc. One system, my butt LOL

Within Epic there is a Tips and Tricks section you might find what you're looking for there. To find it, click on the Epic button on the top left after logging in, and then go to the Help section.
The Brain is helpful for many but not everyone. I agree some people work better from a list view, and no one way works for all.

There are many different builds of EPIC as well. When it first rolled out in my hospital about four years ago, the Brain sheet was not included. When it was added in a subsequent update about a year and a half ago many people hated it and never use the functionality. It's all about finding what works best for people and their organization system.
As mtmkjr pointed out, there are tips and hints within EPIC itself. Good luck.

I like the brain view! I never used the side brain view until recently, but a year or two ago, I noticed that the brain view shows blood labs that are due and there is no way to get that to show in list view. I also like all of the little green checkmarks. With my new job, we have pulse checks on intervals, and also do a lot of pain management. I like to make a "reminder" on the brain for when pulses are due and when I can offer some pain medications so I can stay on top of things.
