Engraving Stethoscopes

Worth it to prevent stethoscopes that "walk" or just try to keep a more vigilant eye?

I'm going to get mine engraved. If you spend a lot of money on one you don't want to use it. No matter how much we try we're bound to leave it somewhere. Anyway, it'll be cool to have your initials on one!!!:)

I think you can get your initials put on there for around ten bucks, which is Much cheaper than replacing tools all the time.

There are a bunch of threads here on the subject, so a search may help you also.

I don't have mine yet, but I do plan to have it engraved when I do get one.

Good luck.

When I bought my littman it came with a name plate you sent off to be engraved. It cost seven dollars. The thing has glue on the back and is easy to put on and Im sure pull off. However, It looks like it is really professionally (custom made) engraved and firmly placed.

On second thought, why not just go out and buy one of them engraving tools - that way, you could engrave whatever you need to. (Anything not nailed down:chuckle )

Something like...... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=34083&item=5008893618&rd=1 ........that. (Just for example)

You could engrave your PDA, laptop, MP3 player, or whatever..........just a thought.

If someone is gonna steal it, they'll steal it if it engraved or not........With so many nurses working multiple flex jobs, they'll just scratch out your name and wear it at the other job.

I've never lost a stethoscope. I usually buy a pink one--the doctors are less likely to walk away with a pink stethoscope :chuckle

out of curiosity where do i buy a good stethoscope from online (bear in mind i live in england), which ones seem to be the best? as we dont really use them in england as a nurse i am clueless about where to get one!

engrave anything you dont want to lose

many people are unintentional thieves...they use and then can't remember where they took it from...if you have a tag or an engraved name they will give it back

the intentional ones are out there too but that is another story

after you engrave your steth rub a little nail polish into the grooves..will make your name stand out

My littman, engraved with my full name, "walked" away just as easily as any other scope I have previously owned.

Well, it wasn't a stethescope, but..

When I was a new grad (many moons ago) my mom gave me a pair of bandage scissors with my name engraved on them. They disappeared until a surgeon handed them to me to cut some tape for a dressing change. I put them in my pocket. "Hey, where are my scissors?" "They're mine, they have my name on them." "Oh."

So, I guess it doesn't help much unless you catch them in the act. Even the cheap ones the units purchase disappear.

I spent $6 at Petco and had a tag engraved with my name, so far my scope and scissors have come back to me when "lost". Don't even remember how many scopes I've bought in the last 20 years, now I just carry cheap ones. With the tag on, I managed to keep one pair of trauma shears until they wore out! :chuckle The little dangling tag (it's the one you make with your name and address for your dog's collar, comes in several shapes, colors and sizes), makes it kind of obvious, instead of having to get up close enough to read engraving.

The serious thief will just take it off, the "oblivious" ones won't notice or bother! :coollook:
