I was wondering if anyone has prior experience as an EMT and if it would be beneficial to nursing school? I was thinking about taking EMT course while waiting to get into nursing school. And, to maybe get a little income coming in. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!Thanks
I was thinking the same thing, if I don't get accepted at our ADN program I'll try that route....I see the EMT students in the library all the time. Looks tough, too.
I've been a ski patroller since '97 and an EMT since '99. Started nursing school last August. The knowledge and experience definitely has helped. I had a good foundation in A&P, assessment, common drugs, patient interaction and working with others in the medical community. Codes are different in the hospital too, lotsa elbow room instead of a dark narrow hallway.
The Basic EMT program is only 3 months and is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay easier than nursing school. Pay is low, but you get to meet some interesting people in some interesting situations.
