ECPI?????????? Please Comment???

Thanks! I checked the NC Board of nurses website, and there are only two schools offering an LPN program in my area; ECPI and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. But, RCCC has 'Warning Status' next to it. I don't know what that means, but it doesn't sound good. It is further than I'd like to go, but doable. If it will save me thousands over ECPI, it's worth the inconvenience. I'm hearing horror stories about loooong waiting lists and lots of pre-reqs at CC's.

Looks like there are more Medical Assisting programs available than LPN. Is this another option I should be considering? I did check the job listings at my local hospital last night, and there were several for CMA, but nothing for LPN. Should I be worried by that? Are CMA's more desirable by employers? I know I DO NOT want to work in a nursing home, unless it's a facility like the Laurels where the patients are not terminal. My first choice would be a dr's office, next would be an urgent care facility and third would be a hospital.

Sounds like you would fair better as a CMA, mainly because of the areas of employment you are seeking. This is NOT to say that LPN is not a great choice, cause it is!!, just basing my advice from what you said...

I agree. Most LPN are utilized in Nursing Homes so if you don't want to work there then do CMA but just know that the money is not that great.

That's what I was afraid of. I think I could do a nursing home if I knew it was only a stepping stone. Honestly, I just don't have the mentality to work in such a depressing atmosphere.

Ideally, I would love to work in pediatrics, since I've spent most of my adult life doing childcare. The cc here offers an associate degree in nursing. Would that be a more useful degree than the LPN program? It looks like I would have to take some pre-req classes and the nurse aid course before I could start it, though. I've also thought about taking a phlebotomy program and then deciding what direction I want to go after that. Would it be difficult to find a job after completing the phlebotomy program? I'm sure those skills would be useful in any direction I go. I don't want to spend years in school before I can earn a descent living. I am just so confused. I enjoy working with people & I like hospital/clinical settings. People have told me that my calm demeanor would be great in the nursing field. I was told by a counselor that I'd make a great therapist, but I have no interest in psychology. I feel like I just keep hitting a wall! I'm 34, and I STILL don't know what I want to do with my life, or how to go about doing it. What I DO know, is that I need to do SOMETHING. ugh. Thanks for your input.

Well, I'm meeting with a rep from ECPI next Tuesday. According to the NC Board of Nursing website, the Charlotte ECPI has a 93% pass rate in 2007. Did the LPN program just start in 2005? They only show 2005-2007. 84%,86% and 93%

The Raleigh school shows, 100%, 80% and 89%.

What is the TEAS test like? If I'm accepted to the school, this will all be contingent on how much financial aid I can get. There's no way I could do $500/mo payments like some else said! What other costs are there? Scrubs? Books?

For those who graduated from the Charlotte ECPI, what was the course like? I'll be attending the evening program if I'm accepted. What was the job placement like and what type of facility did you or your classmates go to?

If I'm not accepted, I'm going to apply for the CNA and Phlebotomy courses at CPCC.

Think very very carefully before entering ANY ECPI. The education is great, the teachers caring and involved. However, as a current student I can tell you my LPN class is at each other's throats all the time. The instructors can not keep order in a classroom; constant chatting, combative students, over all lack of respect shown. Its a private school and nothing is done to discipline a classroom. Now these are adults we are talking about, married with children. Even the school's simple rules of being on time and attendance requirements are not followed. I have personally witnessed cheating on exams by other students, who were confronted with no reprimands. Its really a shame since the faculty trully cares about us and wants us to suceed. Its become a depressing and negative environment to be in everyday. The faculty is aware of these issues, and although we try and not complain constantly, it becomes harder and harder to remain focused on the goal. While this may only be a unique experience at only one ECPI, Greensboro, I would try and observe a class before signing up. Good luck!

I met with the director @ the Charlotte campus yesterday, I will be starting in the October class (hopefully). She spoke about a few lpn to rn programs that will come speak to the class towards the end. Everything seems great so far to me also.

Thanks, I tried to IM you back but I dnt have enough posts yet. I already took the TEAS test, it was not that bad, I actually did pretty good. You should be sure to study first though, I did. Thanks I think I may need it, good luck to you also!!! I will stay in touch too

10/7/2010 Anyone who lives in North Carolina, South Carolina, or Virginia that has teenagers ready for college... Please do not send them to ECPI college of Technology / MCI Medical Career Institute. They are the same college with different names. The college is a private college that is a scam business. These guys are scam artist. Please research ECPI Ripoff before attending, To go to this school to become an LPN, the cost is $33,000.00. They are overpriced. You will do much better going to your closest community college. ECPI Charlotte, NC will manipulate grades for some students and will not do it for other students. The instructors will label each student with bad comments, which will be passed on to the next instructor. There is no student-instructor confidentality-meaning the instructors will tell all of your business to other students and faculty members. Instructors will believe all gossip/rumors without investigating them and will pass on to the next set of instructors. They will also set up the test for you to automatically fail. You will have an instructor, who will tell the whole class that you will not pass my first test - and believe me they will set the whole class up to fail the first test. If you fail out of the nursing program the first time, it will take you months to get back in with an exception if they decide to let you back into the program. You are not guranteed to get back into the program- if this is the case- they have collected your $33,000.00 at this time. Once they have collected all your money from finacial aid and loans, they have the right to not let you return to the program. This college is a hustler school... it is more about business and money than it is about education. Therefore they do not have to let you back in. There clinical sites are a joke. They take you to clinical sites where no one hires LPN's anymore. You constantly do more CNA work than you do LPN work. Some instructors have such a bad attitude, that certain ones can't attend to certain clinical sites because the clinical sites no longer want those instructors at that facilty. Save your money and go to your local community colleges. You will have a better chance to be all you can be at your local community colleges than attending to ECPI/MCI.
