EC exams

Published

Hello I am considering using RUE for my EC exam prep but I had a few questions before hand. I wanted to know if I can take the CLEP exams or the EC Exams without being enrolled in a college of some sort? I want to see if I can successfully study and pass an exam before I enroll and commit to the fees to do this? I don't think I should have to pay RUE to CLEP English? Does anyone have an suggestions? I welcome any and all suggestions. I am currently an LPN working in an Assisted Living facility. I would like to attend a conventional program but don't have the luxury of not working. Thanks to all who contribute.

You can take all pre-req courses w/o being enrolled and take the first 2 nsg tests w/o being enrolled. Do not sign a contract w/ any publishing complany. Most, if not all study guides can be bought off ebay for

WAY cheaper ($50 or less vs $300.00). Was an LPN for 19 years. Just graduated EC in May. Good luck. PM me if you need anymore assist.

Did you CLEP out of all your pre-req? Can I do this without being enrolled in EC? What is your PM or IM So I can email you in the future if you don't mind? Thanks for all you have provided already

All my prior non-nursing credits (A&P, Micro) transferred. ALL my old CLEP tests were accepted for credit, even the one I took for English (most colleges would give me credit for Eng101 for that particular CLEP) although they don't accept it to fulfill the written English requirement and I had to take English 102, or take their written English test, it did count towards humanities credits.

You can take CLEP or Dantes without being enrolled in EC, although some of the test sites (usually at colleges) for CLEP require you to be a student there, not all of them do. Just find one that doesn't. Hope this helps, some.

Are you referring to Excelsior College exams? I am also an LPN and was enrolled with Excelsior and have taken two of their exams. I recently transferred to a local college to finish my RN; if you need Excelsior study materials, I have some to sell; I have the study guides from the College Network, current editions, for Nursing Concepts exams.

I'm still trying to figure this out too.....can I take excelsior exams for things like microbiology or technical writing w/essay without being enrolled at excelsior college?

ETA, I am going through ISU to get me BSN degree, so I can still take EC exams to transfer to ISU? Where do I go to take EC exams? and are they sort of like a clep test or a dantes test as far as being a proficiency exam?

I have a paper that the College Network gave me. They evaluated my transcripts and left me with this paper that has check marked all of the classes that I need to take to graduate from the ISU LPN to BSN program. What confuses me is that after each of these classes is a little initial, some say ©, some say (e) and some say (d). The c is for Clep, the E is for Excelsior and the D is for Dantes. So, what I am guessing is that I will just take a variety of exams from different places to pass or test out of all of these classes? I would clarify this with my College Network man but I have decided not to buy the $6000 package he is trying to sell me so I dont' think he will be nearly as willing to help me now......

Help anyone?

Yes, you can take the exams without being enrolled at Excelsior. Give them a buzz (they have a 1-888 number, and the people are SOOOOOO nice!) and they'll answer any question you have. They are harder than CLEPs but easier than DANTES in that you're given a specific textbook to study (and the freebie outline is MUCH better than the DANTES outline -that DANTES test I took was the hardest test I've EVER taken).

You'll have to call ISU to see if they accept Excelsior exams. It's been my experience that most places do, as they are considered credits from accredited colleges (which EC most certainly is).

EC exams are offered at Prometric/Sylvan testing centers. Give EC a call and I know they'll help you figure all this out.
