Ebooks Required

Does your nursing program require you to use electronic textbooks so that you can view them (especially the required drug guide) at clinicals?

Just curious.

I was a little surprised when I learned that I had to buy all ebooks through Elsevier. I've always preferred hard copy textbooks, but I have to admit ordering a new Kindle Fire to accommodate the ebooks I'll be getting was pretty fun.

Anyway, do you use ebooks, especially ones from Elsevier, and are you happy with them?

My program doesn't require it, but I have two of my books in ebook format, as well as hardcover. I use both pretty extensively (having my med-surg book with me at clinicals is great), but I definitely use my hard copy books more. I need the kinesthetics of paper and a pack of different colored highlighters.

I use pageburst for my books. I like the pc platform, not so much the iPad/iPhone platform. Difficult to navigate and search.

I.m intersted in the outcome of this discussion! Ours doesnt require ebooks but Im torn. On one hand it would be nice to have all my textbooks with me all the time but on the other hand its way easier to flip through and study a textbook! :wacky:

Ebooks came with our "box" of books. However I find them hard to navigate. I'm a visual, hands on learner and not having pics and boxes to see (ebook version) throws me off.

Now I hated carrying those 2000 page books around as well soooooo hold your hats, I unbinded my text books. Each chapter is in its own sheet protector and I take the one out for the module we are working on. I love it however I was nervous taking apart my book but I did!! Lol.

What a great idea!

All my general ed classes were ebooks. I did not like them at first but find that it is much better on my back not to have to carry all those books around. However I still am old fashioned and love real books. I have thought about unbinding my books also, since I am a massage therapist and know firsthand the damage lugging those huge books does to your body.

I know what you're saying! I'm probably going to buy mine next month. I'll let you know what I think. :)

We pre assess the night before. We have to have our drug cards with us on clinical day and I just take my lab diagnostic book and my nursing diagnosis book. They are small pocket size so that's all I take. We have 12 hour clinicals so I really don't have time to research book. I guess that's why we pre assess the day before so we are prepared.

Ah, ok. That makes sense. We don't go the night before, so I have to haul all of my stuff to the hospital or I'd be lost.

Ebooks comes with our bundle of textbooks but it isn't my favorite. I like the ability to hilight, which can be done on Ebooks but it is much to time consuming. I like the hard copies better.
