Drug Testing for NS

How many of you were required you to take a drug test for NS? I'm assuming not many, if any.

I was. Why would you assume you wouldnt have to take a drug test for NS? Every program I applied to required a drug test.

I would assume that because not one single person that I am friends with has been drug tested for nursing school. I should add that they aren't all from one particular school or state. They're friends from all different states across the US.

Nope, never heard of any NS requiring a drug test around here.

Drug screening? Yeah. A nine panel screen.

Thank you for the responses.

We haven't so far but we've already been told that when we start clinicals at the metro hospital last semester we will be drug tested and background checked.

The reasoning behind many schools req a drug test is because of a few different reasons 1. they dont want any substance abusers (you will be having patients lives in your hands during clinical)

2) The hospital that you will be doing your clinical at may req the clinical group to take a drug test before caring for patients

my school req a drug test and if the hospital that we are at wants another drug test performed or even random drug screenings they can do. Also you are working under the RNs licence as a student so...

Yes, I understand the reasons. I've just never had anyone I know be asked to take one which is why I came to ask the question here. I was interested in how many people actually have to submit a drug test. Thanks for your response.

Yes, a drug test was required for my nursing program.

A lot of times it is not the school requiring it, but the clinical sites that the school uses. I am to graduate in May and had to take a drug test after the final, because we got a new clinical site.

Yeah I figured if it was anyone requesting, it would be the clinical site.

I wasn't tested prior to admission to the program or for my nursing program, but certain clinical sites require testing.
