Don't know what to do!!

Today was my first day of classes. I fought to keep my eyes open in every class. On top of that I am stopped up, and sick to my stomach. I really want to complete school and not give up. But it seems that everytime I start school something comes up. I feel so bumbed about everything. I was a sahm and I guess I am use to being with the kids and not going anywhere. I have become comfortable with doing nothing. How can I come out of that shell and perk up?:uhoh21:

You should really decide if it is something you WANT to do. That will give you some incentive. Try to look and plan ahead for next semester, and have a "check off". As you SEE your goals getting accomplished one by one. You even have to plan for sleep. Know that nursing school changes everyone's life. But it WILL come to an end and you will be proud of your accomplishments.

If you are not diabetic, try some lemon drops or hard candy to aid in keeping you alert. Get a buddy that will help hold you accountable. I am sure you will find other students just like yourself.

Hang in there.

firstly, give yourself credit for going back to school to reach your professional goals. you are still young. i would recommend finding or starting a study group. this can make learning more fun and effortless and builds comradery. also try studying when the kids are asleep in the early morn when all is quiet. finally, coffee is not only good for you it can help keep you motivated to reach your goals. just read the harvard medical study on coffee and see what i mean!

ps. remember, you have people at this forum who are rooting for you and you will do the same for them once you graduate in the near future.

The first week, really the first month, of nursing school can be really hard.:uhoh3: I also struggled with keeping my eyes open in class. Give it time. You will make friends and start looking forward to going everyday. I graduated in May and actually miss school so much. I am sure others in your class are feeling the same way. Try to talk with some about it. I hope all goes well, and don't give up.;)

A lady at my old office had a sign that I think of when I kinda get discouraged. It says:

PUT ON YOUR BIG GIRL PANTIES

AND DEAL WITH IT.

When I think of that it makes me laugh. It is great you went back to school. What is even more great is that you must love it or you would have said something about quitting. You only wanted to know how to cheer up. BRAVO! Just think of your kids. What kind of nurse would you want them to see or to take care of them?

a new routine takes some getting use to...try and go to bed at a set time and you will be in the swing of things in no time

I don't know what to tell you that would be helpful, but if you have the option of being a SAHM I'd love to trade places with you.

First of all, if school is your hearts desire then go for it. Get some laxatives and get unstopped. Then get some prunes and eat 3-5 a day, that helps me( I get that way when I travel, probably from too much eating out), drink lots of water, all the time, carry a bottle around and refill it. Get as much sleep as you can each night, and finally get some One A Day "All Day Energy" vitamins. I love them, they work great! Good luck to you!;)

I totally took the OP's statement of being "stopped up" as meaning she was congested!!

Can the OP please clarify? Are you constipated or are you congested?

:lol2: how funny!

i don't know why but this conjured up a memory of mine where a little tyke at costco was stubbornly not willing to leave the store with his mama, a kindly middle aged woman said",hey, tommy, you can go home with me!" boy did that kid skidaddle out of there in toe with mama asap!!!

Just hang in there! You can do anything you set your mind to. Things always seem to happen in nursing school. When I was in LPN school, we had a death in the family and I had a miscarriage and right now in RN school, we've been in for 2 years and have had 3 divorces and 3 babies being born (neither related to the other thank goodness;)) Keep plugging away.

Yes please, I guess I assumed because you said you were sick at your stomach, sorry if I was incorrect!:selfbonk:

I am congested!! I guess I set myself up for that one. I want to thank you all for the great suggestions and I am delighted to know that there are people out there that really care. It is soooo amazing. I just needed motivation. Being comfortable doing one thing for a long period of time and then getting out of that routine can be a lot to deal with. Motorcycle mama, I would trade places with you anyday. My job as a sahm NEVER ENDS. It goes morning, noon, mid-day, evening, nights, mid-night, middle of the night, dusk, dawn, shall I go on?!!! If I can perk up, get over this bug, and stop dragging, I guess I will be ok!!! Thank you all!!!!
