Does anyone know of any A&P courses that you can get into without the pre-reqs?

Does anyone know of any A&P courses that do not require pre-reqs.

There are schools that will not keep you from taking courses if you do not take the pre-reqs. Here is the catch, most students flunk A&P I without the pre-reqs. You may or may not be one of those students.

Call around and ask counselors if it is possible for you to sign up for A&P without the pre-reqs. Sometimes the schools that are not sticklers about ensuring that students have all of the pre-reqs will tell you up front. Good luck. :wink2:

I've been out of school for over 25 years, and I've finally decided to go for my nursing. Currently taking pre-reqs, so far I've taken; psych, nutrition, human life span, and basic math. I'm currently taking pre-algebra to get into algebra so I can get into chemistry so i can get into the science course. At this rate it will take me two and half years to complete the pre-reqs, and I'm not getting any younger. Does anyone know of any A&P courses that do not require pre-reqs.

I was in the same position you are in. I am 43 and decided to go into nursing school. My pre-reqs and required classes took me almost 3 years to complete (taking up to 9 credits a semester, sometimes less) A&P was tough and a must know in nursing. Get the book and do some reading before taking the class, you will be glad you did. The time passes fast and 2 to 3 years is the usual waiting time for some nursing schools. Good Luck. The school I was just accepted into had a long waiting list and usually did not accept you into the nursing program until all of your other courses were done. I start clinicals in January, can't wait. As for our age, that only makes us study harder.

Try http://www.edukan.org Just name Colby Community College as your home school and then you won't have any A&P prerequisites.

At my school, A&P doesn't have a pre-req. So, just look around. Good luck!!

Even though I had had Biology, I dont know that it helped that much because I took Biology 5 years before. I made an A. If you study hard, memorize, get a tutor if you need to, you should do fine.

It seems that there are some A&Ps out there that don't have pre-reqs. You just have to make sure that the credits you've taken at either school are transferable. It would royally suck to take A&P without the pre-reqs only to find it wont be acceptted for the program you want to get into.

This is sound advice. While there are A&P courses that do not require pre-req's (my community college is one of them) most recommend that you do at least have a semester of biology or chemistry. My nursing program required a year of bio and chem in high school or the college equivalent as a pre-req to acceptance into the program.

Having said that, I feel A&P was much easier for me since I already had 2 semesters of college chemistry and one of general biology, but I do think it is possible to do well without the pre-req's if you are dedicated and work very hard.

My community college let me take A&P I without any science pre-reqs, and I got an A. I had taken bio and chemistry in high school, but that was about 5 years ago. I think having a basic knowledge of those topics will help, but it's not absolutely necessary. Of course, it's up to your school though.
