Doctors........aggghhh!

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

I work LTC and I have to deal with a doctor that just gives me fits, all the nurses for that matter. He's a foreign doctor, he's the medical director of our facility and he has the majority of our patients. He, in my opinion, has the "little man syndrome". Nothing we do is right. The latest as of yesterday....the nurses do not send proper faxes. He yells at us all the time when we have to call him, being foreign, once he's mad, you can't understand him, then he gets even madder when you ask him to repeat himself or clarify an order. I work 11-7 shift, and I better hope, if I'm calling him, that the person is either dead or on the verge of dying, otherwise, I'm gonna get it!!!! Blood sugars of 28 with call orders

Why do you stay then?

Well in the county I work in there are a handful of doctors. I've worked at 3 facilities in this area............he has patients at all of them. Downfall of a small town. I don't want to relocate at this time, or be on the road for hours, I have small kids at home. Why does he have to be such a jerk?

hi

I can sympathize with you completely!! I worked LTC for 8 years before I had a major melt down and needed a change. The doctor was an a$$ who changed orders every other day for stupid things. d/c 100mg of colace, add 200mg of colace. Then the following day d/c the 200mg and change it back. to 100mg It drove me crazy.

I now work for extremely large medical office and this doctor is no better. He is the medical director and I think he has some mental issues.

He screams and yells if a patient isn't prepped and ready at his convience, more than once he has thrown charts at staff. He is unfriendly and I find him a phoney when he is with patients as he grunts about their stupid visits after they leave. Just because you leave doesn't mean you will find a job that is all roses. stay with what you are comfortable with and deal....

He is a jerk because he can... he is the doctor

He is a jerk because he can... he is the doctor
Unfortunately it is difficult to avoid the doctors who possess the almighty 'God complex'. :uhoh21:

hi

He screams and yells if a patient isn't prepped and ready at his convience, more than once he has thrown charts at staff.

Has he ever actually STRUCK a staff member with a chart? Seems to me that could be a form of battery!!!!:angryfire No one should have to endure that!

Furthermore, his screaming at staff is unprofessional; administration should be made aware of this...and perhaps the Medical Board too! Don't put up with any of this.

Has anyone actually ever stood up to him? My experience with people like this is that if you DO stand up to them, calmly, maturely, and forcefully, rarely is there ever an issue again.

I'd stand up to the guy and tell him in no uncertain terms that I WILL NOT be treated in any manner other that a professional one; if legal action is warrented (if he threw a chart at me, for example) I would take it. I would document, document, document; then I'd contact the Board of Healing Arts. If that didn't get any response, I'd probably give copies of all my notes to my local newspaper. But I can be a b**** like that.

You could always file a complaint against him for harrassment...public humiliation is unacceptable in the work place..(so says EEOC)...throwing charts at staff could be considered assault >:D...

I used to work at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego...One of the other HM's got caught throwing charts at recruits...got into some serious trouble for violating JHACO patient privacy policies..

Good luck:)

Yes, please HIT ME. I would pursue him to the ends of the earth with the meanest, most evil tempered attorney I could afford.
