I am starting my nursing program in January and I want to have everything in order so that when it starts, I'm prepared as much as possible. I have two kids so I need to begin the prep now.

I have a regular backpack but one of the professors at orientation mentioned that it would be worth it if we got a rolling backpack (he was also a chiropractor for 10 years lol so maybe thats why he wants us to have that.)

What kid did you all get if you got one? I think I like the Jansport Driver 8 but I have only seen it online and backpacks are sometimes the sort of the thing you need in your hand to get a good idea of how sturdy they are.

Any thoughts?

I have an LL Bean rolling backpack and love it!! I used all the time in pre-nursing and my first semester. I am a commuter student with a long walk from the parking garage. The past two semesters I only used it when I had a group study session, or I was going somewhere that I need several books. For regular class I only bring my current notes and maybe the text book depending on who is lecturing. If you already have a good backpack, I would save the money and see what you really need to bring to class first. I only needed my books in class for fundamentals and we shared, one brought Nursing Diagnosis, one brought Fundamentals, etc. If you truly need a rolling one, it is very nice to have. If you don't, I would spend that money on a good NCLEX review book.

Better on your back ,yes, but everyone always looks like a dorky elementary school kid, imo :-)

We have been told that we must bring our books to class daily....I'm not very worried about looking like a dork! LoL! I'm going to check out the LL Bean! Thanks!!

I'm 27 with 2 kids...I couldn't care less if I look like a dork at school. I'm not trying to impress anyone. ;) I love my rolling backpack, and most of the nursing students at my school use them. I bought a High Sierra powerglide from Amazon. It's served me well so far and didn't break the bank. :)

I hear ya @FDW630! I have 2 kids as well! I'm already married so I have only one agenda - get my degree!! :) That Sierra Powerglide is pretty sweet!

Ok, nothing was BIG enough for me so I got a rolling sewing maching trolley. And I LOVE it. Everything I used previously fell apart, but this is awesome and fits EVERYTHING. I think it cost me about fifty some odd dollars. A lot of the students use rolling craft cases and those also seem to work well.

A ton of my nursing classmates put them to great use! I on the other hand hate holding up traffic going in and out doorways so I have yet to get one! haha

I use a rolling backpack (don't know the brand) but it is big enough for my laptop computer and two or three of my textbooks. If I need something bigger, I'd get one of those craft dolly things. They're nearly indestructible.

Rolling Back packs are in the same category as fanny packs, totally awesome!

I use ebooks on my tablet or laptop and a swissgear non roller backpack. I hate paper books.
