Do they teach CPR in nursing school?

Not that I know of, usually you need to have BLS for Healthcare Providers before starting nursing school. This is offered at most EMS places. Once you are accepted into nursing school there is a list of things you need to do, so don't worry until then!

All of your questions are good questions. It may vary per school, but all of the schools in my geographic area (within a one hour, one way, travel distance) require students get it on their own; though some (like my school) does provide it from an optional (i.e. you pay extra) class. Do shop around; if the instructor/teaching institution is certified, that's all that matters.

I think the certification of a CPR license is only 2 years. Funny thing,My schools nursing program has the American heart association CPR as a pre-req for clinicals, but they don't even offer it. I have to go elsewhere to get certified.

That's not a funny thing. That's how it is for pretty much every school. Do it online and then do skills in class.

One of the schools I am applying to requires you to get certified before the program starts while the other does CPR certs the first week of the program so the whole class does it together. So I guess it would depend on your program.

I would look into all the schools you are applying to. Rules vary by school, for instance my school only takes American Heart Association (AHA) Health care provider CPR. Some of the other CPR classes offered in my area don't qualify and none of the six schools in my area take on-line CPR. They all also require us to be certified before applying, but most (3 out of 6) offer it on campus. Good luck when applying!!

Check into the requirements of the program that you are entering into. The program at my school requires that you have your certification before you start the program. The school does offer the class as a one day class usually on a Saturday. Also check out your local American Red Cross, most offer the class, just make sure that you are getting the right certification. Depending on what the program requires and when the classes are available in your area you will want to make sure that you don't wait to long on getting your certification.

According my personal experience, when i entered my school i needed to have my CPR certificate. So i think that everywhere is the same because without it you might not enter
