I work in a long term care facility, and we have a standard med cart with our OTC's in one of the lower drawers. Unfortunately all the other drawers are full with pt meds, so there are really no other options on where to place the OTC's, so there is a lot of bending and back pain. Have any of you seen any newer design medcarts, where the lower drawers swing up to counter height, or something similar. I know I am not the only one who has this problem, so I was hoping someone had seen a smart solution.

hmph-we have carts with square wheels and admin could not care less.I'm telling you that after a day wrangling a few of these carts I'm worn out. I DREAM of nice new carts. Squeeky clean, practically rolling themselves from room to room-I want mine to be equipped with a pill shooter, too. How nice would that be? Just say "ahhh"-point and shoot. Good luck with your search

We have great carts. Top drawer holds OTCs, accucheck supplies, etc. Second drawer holds patient meds and syringes and narcs. Bottom drawer holds overflow. We get our carts from the pharmacy we contract with.

OTCs in a lower drawer? Ugh sounds miserable. Our carts are okay, nothing great, but we have a shallow top drawer that holds all OTCs, accucheck supplies, and misc. stuff like eyedrops. Next drawer down holds all the prescription meds (on the punch cards) and all the inhalers (we have tons of people on spiriva/advair combo).
Next drawer down has the narc. box, a section that is full of liquid meds, a section full of lidoderm patches etc.
Then the bottom drawer is all misc. junk and overflow.
I couldn't deal with having the OTCs in a lower drawer. Ouch. I wish there were more ergonomically designed med carts.

So, if you find one, do you really think they will buy new ones just to make our life easier?
I've been at the same place for more years than I'd like to admit and I think we have only changed med carts twice.
Ours carts have a small top drawer for eye gtts and accu check stuff, second drawer is 7-3 and the otcs. next is 3-11, narc box and liquids, bottom is for nebs, syringes and etc.
