Dismissed from nursing program

Hey all,

I’m currently in a nursing program and about to start my last semester. Finally, almost there! Here’s the catch.. every year we have to do a drug test, background check, health checks with Castlebranch and my drug test came back positive. I’m currently working with a lawyer trying to retest the sample for accuracy since I know it’s a mistake. It’s also scary knowing no one believes you when you get a false positive test. So my question is,
Does anyone know of fellow students dismissed from the program for a positive drug test? And if so, were they allowed to reapply to the same program or did they get admitted into another program to finish?

I don't think any reputable school is going to just automatically dismiss you for a failed drug test, but that positive is between you and the lab and needs to be taken care of since it is saying you were positive. Drug tests aren't that much money, if you're that sure it's a false positive, just go get retested ASAP.

Thank you. I immediately got retested when I received the results. I’m hoping you’re right and my school can help me get the previous sample retested rather than immediately dismiss me.

Some normal things can cause false positives too. It all depends on what they're claiming you were positive for.

With drug tests there should be a doctor at the lab you can talk to -- tell him if you're prescribed anything, or if you take any supplements or OTCs.

Get a hair follicle test ASAP.

What type of drug was it positive for? I’m asking because certain things can make it come up positive. Did they ask you if you take any meds? Many people take adderall and that comes up as meth. Some cold medicines can make you positive too.

First off congrats on being in your last semester, I envy you! Have you already been dismissed from the nursing program? Have they formally told you anything in writing or sent an email dictating you to retake the test? As others said, retake the test immediately. Try to refrain from taking supplements, preworkouts, diet pills, and meds such as adderall as others stated till after the test. Best of luck, keep us updated and congrats on your last semester.

Thank you everyone! My school contacted me to meet with the dean and sent me out to get a random monitored drug test and once it comes back negative the old test will be tossed.

Oh good. Did you pass it?
