Hi,
I'm hoping that many of you with lots of varied experience could give me some advice. I work part time in a NICU 24 hours. I have been an RN for 5 years and have PICU and pediatric home care experience. I have a bachelors degree. I am looking to drop my hours at the hospital to 18 per week and would like to find work from home for about 12-15 hours per week. I am probably going to take a legal nursing course in the fall. I have considered case management, but have no experience. I have considered telephone triage positions which is in the realm of possibility but also has its own challenges. Ideally, I'd like to review charts in some capacity, on my own schedule from home. Should I try insurance companies (I've looked into a few without luck)? Any suggestions, ideas or thoughts would be most welcome. I've done extensive internet research and haven't had a great amount of luck. What I really need is someone with experience in this area to talk to. I am in New York State so if anyone is geographically close to Rochester that would be a bonus.
Thanks for your time,
Jennifer- NY RN

hello, jennifer,
if you are thinking of furthering your education, you might consider pediatric nurse practitioner or neonatal np. how about education?
as for lnc, have you seriously checked out the different avenues of education and all the career entails? if not, please check out the sticky threads found at the top of the legal nursing forum. here are a couple to help guide you:
lnc duties
legal nurse consulting and marketing ideas
my business is out of my home. i really like the boss, too.
good luck in whatever you decide and if you have any questions regarding the lnc career, please do not hesitate to pose them in the legal nursing forum and/or send me a private message.

with all the new hippa rules I am not sure how you could review charts at home. If you want to do case management a lot of times they will train you.
