every college has a list of prereqs for the various programs,

have you spoken to a adviser yet??

I'm not sure what an "Ivy Tech" is, so I cant comment specifically, but I would look at all the programs in your area and start researching what their requirements are as opposed to what you have already. Its going to be different to a certain extent for each school, but the core will be mostly the same. As a leg up you can go to the community college in your area for some of the basics like English, Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy, etc. Get good grades and those will offset the ones in HS to a good degree. If you want more specific advice, post some more info like where you live and what programs you are thinking about.

i just graduated from high school and my grades were not the best, my gpa was a c overall. how difficult could it be for to try to get into a nursing program at an ivy tech then transfer somewhere else?

my grades weren't the best because i focused on after school stuff too much. (show choir, jazz choir, madrigals, chorale, theater, and watching little brothers)

never once during my cna classes,cna jobs, nursing prerequisites, nursing school, or finding an rn job after school did i find any difficulty at all because i am male. it never happened.

talk to the admissions office at your schools of choice about what you would need to do to get in, then do that.

your community college doesn't care about your high school grades. you will have to take college level microbiology, physiology, and anatomy regardless. dont let your high school grades put you off, when you go to college its like getting a fresh start. i'm in rn school right now after losing brain cells in the military. my h.s grades were not so great either. i went to c.c and started from scratch, worked my but off in school to get good grades and now i am in the rn program. as for the university level bsn degree, same rules apply. you can use you sat scores, overall gpa, community service hours etc etc in order to gain acceptance into the university. however , you will still need to knock out the pre-reqs for the bsn program in order to be selected for the program. bsn selection doesn't care about your h.s grades. so the good news is you have a fresh start on a lot of classes pal. just don't mess it up....no pressure. good luck dude.

*** That is a good plan. There is no probloem for males entering nursing. I kinds felt they rolled out the red carpet for me. You will need better grades in the community college.

I would like to know what you mean by specializing in respiratory? If you want to be a resp therapists that is different than nursing. Nurses don't really specialize in body systems usually. We usually speclialize in types of units in the hospitals or long term care. ICU, ER, NICU, med-surg, and others are areas you can specialize in.

I live in Illinois but from Indiana so I know what he is referring to. Indiana's community colleges are a very different setup than here in Illinois where each county has a community college.

In Indiana, there is a setup called Ivy Tech, and they have centers all over the state. It is equivalent to a community college.
