Did I do something wrong?

Last week I interviewed at a local hospital's career fair. I spoke with a lovely nurse manager and it seemed to go very well. I called the human resources dept. two days after I interviewed and thanked them, and they seemed positive. I emailed the nurse manager I interviewed with and thanked her as well. She emailed me today with a very brief, "Your welcome." I haven't heard anything else from human resources and I am getting a bit ancy. I thought the interview went really well, perhaps I was wrong. Any thoughts?

Did you just talk with them at the job fill or did you "officially interview?" Did you actually fill out an application?

If "yes," ... call and ask them the status of your application. In "no," then submit an official application. Nothing can happen with the paperwork of getting hired until you actually submit the paperwork. Once it is officially within the flow of papers through the system, then you can nudge it along a little by asking about its status.

Thanks Eric for your reply. I did call over today to check the status, they said that they are calling people back dependent on departmental needs. Maybe my availability limits me (I can only work weekend nights- 3 kids under 4), other than that, I don't know. Thanks again everyone for your replies.

Will you be available to orient on weekdays for a while? If not, that might be a problem. Most places have week day orientations.

After orientation, though, I would think that they'd be thrilled to get someone for weekend nights. It's not exactly the most popular shift to work! Good luck!

If that was the official interview, then you should wait about a week to check your status.

Questions: did you hand them a CV, what did the "interview" consist of? Did you fill in a job application form? With career fairs, you never know if that was the real thing or just a possible selection or resume gathering.

Anyway, letters of continuing interest ;)

For every hospital job I've applied to, human resources has taken several weeks, if not longer, to call me back for the purpose of setting up an interview. While the other smaller facilities have staffing needs that are immediate and will hire you on the spot, hospitals are much more selective in their hiring process. In other words, be patient and good things will come your way. Good luck!

Everywhere I've ever applied...and not gotten hired at.....the HR people just shined it on and on. I left the interviews feeling confident, like it really went well. They have even promised to find me positions before...to no avail. I've sent countless thank you letters, etc. I wish you the best of luck but if you never hear from them again I would not be suprised. HR people are just like that sometimes, they don't want to ruffle anyone's feathers, burn any bridges.

Probably is your availability. R U a new grad? Seems like they always want new grads to work full time and have wide open availability. Can you work F, Sat, Sun, twelve hour nights? If so, that might be very workable to them! GOOD LUCK!
