I talked to a recruiter from AMH, told her I wanted to travel to Denver. I have med-surg experience. She told me the two hospitals she had listed for this position paid $23 an hour with no shift/weekend differential. She stated that Denver was such a popular spot that they didn't need to entice travelers with the pay. What do you all think of this?

Don't know anything 'bout Denver, but what are the other companies quoting?

Sorry, but that is a bunch of "junk' that so many people want to go there so their rates are lower.
One thing that should never come from a trecruiter's mouth. It should wave a red flag to stay away from them.
What are they including for that rate?

Free housing is the only other thing we discussed. I didn't like the 23 dollar an hour thing, so I didn't ask a lot of other questions. Thec reruiter sounded very pushy.

Sounds like Florida wages....All the same it seems kind of low. Also.. no offense but were talking med/surg as well with greater demand for travelers tending to be in specialty areas which also tend to pay more. The OP though should do what alot of travelers I have met do and that is talk with more than one company. So if that is the going rate its the going rate.
As far as the pushy concern ask for another recruiter or speak to that persons supervisor.

I live in Colorado and also for different reasons made a choice not to travel with the company you mentioned. Yes, Denver is a very nice place to work, and depending on which area (sub burb) you are looking at going to, travel drive time with Denver traffic well I've traveled 20 miles and it took 90 minutes during rush hour.
Staff pay rates for RNs with at least 2 years experience is higher than that in the Denver area. New Grad rates are between (depending on which hospital) $18 and $25, and from $25 to $33 for 2 years experienced RN pay rate. Night shift differentials at one hospital is $4.00 per hour. I can't say about weekend pay differentials, as I have no information on those.
Local per diem agency rates for Med Surg are higher than what you were quoted. I didn't think that even with housing and utuilites paid, that the hourly rate you were quoted is enough.
I have traveled with many companies over the past 17 years, and I know that the agency bills for the RN time at a minimum of $50 to $75 per hour.
So $23 per hour? I'd have to say no thank you to that offer.:rotfl:
I talked to Cirrus Medical Staffing; free furnished private housing (except linens, pots and pans), the recruiter quoted $27.
Do they provide tv also? If you have small car, and you have to bring all of that, you aren't going to have much room. I would be specific as to what they will provide. You would be surprised at the differences, and if no dishes, it means no coffee pot, toaster, or any kitchen gadget..something else to consider.

AMH usually pays lower than most other agencies then wants you to share housing.
I did a contract in a facility that the AMH nurses made less than me and then had to share with a roomate.
Pushy doesn't even begin to descibe the converstaions I had with them right up until the recruiter cursed at me and then hung up on me.
Not an agency I will ever work with to say the least. But the companies that I work with have treated me very well and taken good care of me.
