I'm a nursing student now and couldn't tell you about he hospital situation but I live in the area. It's so nice here, nice weather, we have access to many different things, miami and ft lauderdale is close by if you like to party. Orlando is not that far if you want to see mickey.
Delray is one of the trauma hosp in the area if you like that sort of stuff. There is a hospital in Boynton (Bethesda memorial). I recently gave birth there. They also have a cardiac center. JFK in Lake worth are also big on cardiac. Boca is also close by (don't know what they known for). PM for specifics that I might not be able to comment on here.

Have not worked there but worked at other hospitals in the area. When anyone would speak of the hospital it would be "HellRay" as instead of Delray. That was several years ago but think it still holds true.

Hellray is an understatement. I did a contract there 5 years ago. It may be different now but it was hell at the time. The pts and families are the most demanding i have ever dealt with. The ratio was 8 pts on days and 10 on nights on a tele floor. Very hotel butt kissy run hospital!!!!

There are several threads on this BB about Delray Beach, aka "Hellray or Deathray" Beach.
It has a nationally known reputation among travelers as an undesirable assignment, for most units. It is one thing for a few travelers to put down a specific facility, it is a whole different animal, when one facility is that poorly thought of throughout the industry.
I have heard that it has "improved" in some units, but still hear from plenty of travelers that say that it was a miserable experience.
I will say, as a native Florida, I cannot recommend facilities in the Boca Raton/Delray/Palm Beach area to fellow travelers. I have worked assignments in that area and will NEVER do so again. My experiences there were positively the WORST in my entire nursing career (17 facilities). Virtually feedback that I have heard on any facilities there has been poor.
There are a great deal of very rude, entitled, extremely nasty patients in that area...more so than any other place that I have seen. And while the Beaches are beautiful, the parking fees are outrageous as is the COL, in comparison to the rest of the state. It really is not worth it. And the pay rates are generally not good.
Also, be aware that the management will dump blame for any little problem on the "Well, it is not our fault...it was an agency nurse - etc." There was a very recent case of this in the news posted here....a Plantation facility blaming an agency nurse for a patient fall, since the patient did not go to ICU....as if the nurse could watch the patient in the ER for every second or makes the choice as to whether the pt goes to ICU (it was during the "season"....how much you want to bed, that there were no ICU beds available?)
Be aware that there have been issues with a possible serial killer stalking in that area....specifically at one of the high end malls (with a Nieman's, Sak's, etc.). Someone is stalking single women with children...over about the past year. Kind of freaked me out as I was there when, living within a half mile of the mall, when one of the early killings occurred...the pattern had not been established yet.
