Gallup Nurse Insight Assessment?
Yeah I just took this test for a scholarship (the kind they give you money and when you finish school you work for that hospital). I've already received a letter stating that my GALLUP scores were not up to their standards and I would not be receiving the money. Basically I answered truthfully. I like to focus on more that one thing, I'm dependable, I'm not the neatest person. How does that disqualify me I don't know. The letter didn't have any more information. How do you fail a personality type test? I did!

State Jobs
If you were waiting for a job for income I would say look into other things as well. The state take FOR EVER for pretty much anything they do. If they really really need you they might hurry up but I would still think it would be a month (??). That's why the state has a problem filling positions sometimes (and the lowww wages) because they hire people but by the time they get back to them the person has already found another job. (I'm in Palm Beach County). If you are tired of hospital work and want a 9-5 with no stress then waiting might not be such a bad idea. Good luck!!

How do you get a job before graduation/nclex????
Hi all, I've read a few post where people where offered or applied to jobs months before graduation/nclex. This might be a silly question but how do I go about doing that? I keep thinking I should be an RN and then apply??? but I'd really like to have a job before I graduate. HELP!! Also, I'll be able to sit for LPN in Dec and I don't graduate until Aug 2010. Any think it's worth the experience to do that and try to work as an LPN mean while? I already have a full time job so I would have to quit. I'm looking forward 12 hour shifts though. Any thoughts??

PreMed nursing
keep in mind though that there are not many jobs for biology majors. If you do not make it into med school, or don't make it in your first try, your are probably need to work while you apply again. You can do what you want to do but it is not always easy. There is always life events (like marriage and children) that can make things much more difficult if you need to be in school full time. If you have the grades, I would try an accelerated nursing bsn and then complete the few classes that you need for medical school later (if medical school is still an option). Medical schools love people with experience and not just straight A's. Trust me, they get plenty of people with straight A's, they want more than that now. You can also advance your nursing education later on if you decide to stick with nursing. From personal experience, I'm getting better grades in the classes I take now that when I was in college full time. Guess I saw the real world and didn't like it so I'm trying harder the second time around.

south florida workforce money??
hmmm, I'm in Palm Beach, guess it is different in other counties. I told people in my class and they were also able to get it without problems.

south florida workforce money??
I think they require you to make less than $30 per hour. Which I don't make so I was in. You don't have to be "low income" or unemployed. They want to pay for the classes because you agree to work for a year after you graduate (you have to work in Florida, doesn't matter where). You also have to call and check in every month. I always call and ask if they have money to give me for gas. They give you a gas card for $50 dollars. (Which I'm very happy to take) I think you still have to check in for a year after you graduate. A simple email is all it takes, no big deal. They also pay for you to take the boards.

GO, GO GO, they will make you jump through hoops but it is worth it. They pay for my tuition, uniforms, and books. They even bought my shoes and stethoscope.

Loan Repayment programs in West Palm Beach Area?
The VA usually pays more than the health department. I don't know about the VA but the health department will pay up to $4000 per year of student loans. The health department does not pay much (not sure what they pay and I don't think anyone would tell me), but there are not nights or weekends.

PBCC-palm beach comm. college
I think I had 28 points. It was 27 or 28, can't remember. That was for Spring 2008 (part time program) which they only have 30 seats for. I think they have 110 seats for the full time program.

online mph programs
Here is what I did, I went to school and got a BS in Biology, now I can't find any job that has anything to do with biology. After I graduated I looked for master programs that would interest me and I thought the MPH would be a good idea for me. Since I still haven't taken the GRE I started doing a graduate certificate in Epidemiology while I got around to the GRE. The graduate certificate had pretty much the same classes as the MPH but not all of them so I figured I would pick up where I left off. Then I started working at my local health department and I realized that I would not be able to do anything with an MPH unless I was a nurse. There are a couple of nurses here (like the head of the department) that have MPH's. It seems like the school of choice for the people at the health department is the University of South Florida, I've heard good things about the program. I was doing mine at Florida International University but I never even finished the certificate because they never offered the classes that I needed to complete it, and they would always tell me to take a different class and they would count it but I have a feeling if I got around to it they would come back and tell me those are not the aproved classes. But overall I think you should do what you think would best suit your person and your needs. I actually didn't think I'd like nursing school so much, although we are doing clinicals this summer (I'm doing a part time program at the local community college) and I'm terrified and happy at the same time. Good luck.

Thermometer Question
I bought this red cross pacifier thermometer for mine (along with the other regular ones) http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2449557 I took the temperature using both this one and rectal and the pacifier is quite accurate. The trick is to make sure you hold the pacifier in place. If your wife is a new mom she could give it a try since its likely that she will want to check the temperature everytime the baby "feels hot or looks sick," at least the poor thing won't have a thermometer on his/her booty 24/7. You can always do the rectal if the temperature is actually elevated.

Do you say you're a nurse...
Sorry this thread got off subject. I just really don't know enough about LPN's...and you guys know what happens when we assume I do think many people do not see how similar the nursing classes really are. Lets hope this helps to open up someone else's mind. Thanks for the igreat idea of looking at LPN books, I'm sure the concepts are explained much better and without all the fluff.

Do you say you're a nurse...
hmmm I don't recall saying anyone was smarter than anybody else... I do recall saying I was trying to learn about LPN's though...

Do you say you're a nurse...
Hmm the poster wanted to know what each person called themselves (OPINION). From the National Council of State Boards of nursing. To me (opinion), they make a distinction between the two but I can see how the term "nurse" would apply. See, I learned about LPN's today. https://www.ncsbn.org/nclex.htm NCLEX Examinations Under the guidance of its membership, NCSBN has developed two licensure examinations used by its Member Boards to test the entry-level nursing competence of candidates for licensure as registered nurses and as licensed practical/vocational nurses. These examinations, the NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN examinations, are administered with the contractual assistance of a national test service. The NCLEX Examinations Department is also responsible for practice analyses necessary to support the NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN examination development process. NCSBN has also developed and co-owns the largest competency evaluation program for nurse aides in the United States, known as the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program, the NNAAP.

Do you say you're a nurse...
Not trying... just giving an opinion. Question: Do LPN's take the same exact NCLEX?? I thought it was and LPN NCLEX (can't remember what it's called). PS> I'm not trying to be smart, I'm trying to learn about LPN's
