Hello Everyone,
I am attending school at a DCCCD college at the moment and taking pre-reqs. I was just wondering if anyone has ever been in the situation I am: I hear so much about TWU nursing program, but at the same time, I don't want to just cancel out UTA or other good nursing schools as well. From your experience, what are the best Nursing schools in TX???
1 more question: I will have 2 Cs on my transcript. Now, if I have a good gpa when I get my AAS, will this be detrimental to me getting into a good nursing school or will my gpa and pre-reqs being complete outweigh the 2 Cs?

Hi, I would apply to both schools and when you get accepted into both schools (think positive) you can go to the campus and talk to staff and student and then decided which program you like the best. The ONLY thing that counts for your g.p.a is the nursing prerequisites courses.

IMHO, you should apply for both, then decide if both accept you.
As long as the "C's" were not related to science course(s) your cumulative GPA should prevail.

Yup apply to both - then see which is a better "fit" if you get accepted both places. If you only get accepted at one place then you won't have to worry about making a decision!
thank you all for your responses. I guess I already knew the answer, but I was wondering about other top ranked Nursing schools besides UTA and TWU in TX as well. (I guess I just need to research)

What have you heard about TWU? Just curious cause I go there :). I hear mixed things about it online, though.
There's also UT-H and UTMB in Galveston, Prarie View A&M, and Houston Baptist in the Med Center [not UTMB].

I am also in this position. I am applying to both UTA and TWU. At first, I really just wanted to apply to TWU since I had heard so much about them and everyone was drooling to get in. Now, I have opened up to UTA as well. They have one of the top 25 ranked nursing schools in the US! And they have the smart hospital as well. I understand that I should I wait to see where I get accepted, but we only get like 2 weeks to decide, and I would like to know as much as I can before hand! thanks!

I am also curious to know more from those of you applying to TWU and UTA both. I am also considering both programs. Are you just going to go where you get in? And if you get in to both, which will you choose, and why? Where, exactly, are classes held at UTA, and does anyone know where their clinicals take place? I need to make sure that the commute is doable.
Good luck everyone! I hope you guys who applied to UTA by today's deadline get in!

I am only applying to UTA and TWU. If I only get into one of them, of course I will go to which ever takes me. If I get into both, I am leaning towards UTA since they have the smart hospital and all. They are also ranked as having one of the top 25 nursing schools in the nation. TWU only has word-of-mouth appeal to me (what I have heard about it). Honestly, I don't know which I would pick though since I am not in that situation and I really don't want to jinx myself lol. TWU is closer (25 mins away), and I could just take the bus. UTA is much farther 45 mins away, and I would have to drive. Unless I get into their online fast track program. I can't remember about where clinicals are, but they are in hospitals surrounding the area of each of the schools. What about you? Where are you applying and where will you go if you get a pick? and why? Did you take the HESI for TWU at the same time as for UTA?
No, I haven't taken the HESI yet. (Sorry I didn't reply to your PM, I still don't have enough posts to be eligible for PM) I plan to take it once the summer I session is over. I am retaking 2 classes to raise my gpa to get into TWU, on the advice of an advisor. I already have a B.S., so the BSN will be a 2nd degree for me. I honestly didn't start considering UTA until a couple months ago, and just didn't get my act together in time for the deadline today. TWU is closer for me. I hate to put all my eggs in one basket, but I can always apply to UTA for fall 2010 (or summer 2010 fast track, if it is actually happening) if I don't get into TWU for spring. I don't know how I feel about an all online program, though.
How was the HESI? Do you have a recommendation on what to use for a study guide? I ordered the one put out by HESI, but read mixed reviews of it. People didn't have great things to say about it, but I couldn't really find any alternatives, either.

No prob about the PM! I already have a BS as well. I know how you feel about the online program. Yes, it is probably tough. and I don't know how much I would learn vs trying to just get good grades, you know? The HESI was not bad. I liked the HESI book by elsevier. It was helpful for reviewing everything. There were some things in the science section that I had to look up myself, but I expected that.
Great. Thanks. I hope I do really well on it, because my gpa will only be a 3.83, and that is AFTER retaking 2 classes in summer school (assuming I get A's of course :-))Are you taking Patho this fall? Doesn't UTA require Patho, Pharm, and a Concepts course as prepreqs? Are you taking all 3 this fall? I am considering enrolling in Patho at TWU for fall, just to get it out of the way. I think I read somewhere that it was a good idea to do that so that the first semester of nursing courses wouldn't be such a heavy load. But I was told it was the only class I could take before being admitted into the program.
