Does anyone know how Deaconess does their selection for the LPN-ADN program? Just wondering if they have a lottery, waitlist, or if they actually select students who meet specific criteria (GPA, essay, etc)
If anyone knows, please let me know!!
Thanks

This is a good question and could quickly be answered by the DCN staff.
Is there a particular reason for asking?
C:p
No particular reason other than I was just curious. I have a great GPA, but I don't want to be sending money out to a whole bunch of schools for applications, just to be told that I won't be accepted or that the seats are already filled. If a school has a waitlist, then your more or less guaranteed a spot at some point in time.
I have read a post by someone else (sorry can't remember who) that they just received a letter that they are in for the Summer semester and on the wait list for Spring but that they probably won't get in as few people drop once they are accepted.
I would encourage you to send your app. if you are interested. I would guess at this time you still have a good shot for the summer session which begins in May. If nothing else, call the school and ask what your chances of getting in the summer session are.
Good luck what ever you decide,

This must be something new for DCN. I haven't heard anything about gpa requirements other than your standard admission criteria.

They do have a GPA requirement, I think. I remember this from when I applied. I am hoping to get in for summer semester, but am still waiting for my transcripts to get sent to DCN. The deadline for summer admission is Feb 13, so hurry if you are looking to get in sooner than later!
Good Luck

Lisa- are u eligble eventhough u are not a LPN or do they have EMT to ADN program:confused:
DCN offers two ADN programs. (They also have a BSN program)
LPN's enter the program having 3 semesters to complete for their RN/ADN.
Others enter having 3 semsters to complete the PN component followed by additional 3 semesters for their RN/ADN for a total of 6 semesters. After the first three semesters (PN component) students are eligible to sit for the LPN boards if so desired.
To my knowledge, DCN is the only nursing college which offers this type of program (requiring no previous professional licensure) in the online format. Essentially a student could enter complete the PN, take the NCLEX work as an LPN end of schooling. OR they could enter complete the PN portion take or not take LPN and continue for ADN/RN. Take the NCLEX and work as an RN end of schooling. OR complete the six semesters, sit for the NCLEX, work as an RN while continuing with the BSN program.
Hope this helps,
Thanks:), I may use htis route once i get my LPN:)
In other words, no you do not have to be anything but over 22(I think) and breathing to apply.
Although helpful, no medical background is necessary. Last I heard they were starting to get a little more selective in choosing students because the program is becoming popular.
Maybe that is why they are starting to look at gpa's.
Good Luck to everyone who is applying, hope you get in;)
