I've been placed on the cardio-vascular-thoracic in my OR. I've been told that CVOR is high-demand, can write my own ticket after a year's experience, etc. Maybe train to do transplants, etc. However, the situation is a high-stress one due to personnel and I'm wondering if it's worth it. I can move to another hospital later, no prob.
I'm looking for feedback from people who are /have done CVOR and what job outlook is like, what pay rates are (motivational), and if all teams are stressful due to the nature of the job bringing (possibly) out the worst in folks or if this might be isolated.

I work CVOR with a small, dedicated team. I find it much less stressful and have a better rapport with my coworkers now than I did when working out in the rest of the OR. Pay rates depend on the area; my facility does not pay better for being CVOR- the only difference in pay comes from the extra amount of call we take compared to the others.

My CVOR team is like family. We are a small group that spends hours upon hours together. Sometimes tempers do flair, but almost always at the end of the day, it is behind us. I have heard from new people that it can be tough to break into the group, but once you're in, everything is fine. As far as pay goes, my facility does offer a $2 cardiac differential. As for marketability, over the years, I have went on several interviews, and been offered the position every time, but at the end of the day I wasn't ready to leave my CVOR family just yet.

I'm with LovesToScrub. Small tight knit group. Most of us get 7% â¤ï¸ differential but the 2 newest members do not since it was stopped about a year ago. Personally I find it less stressful to have a limited number of doctors & limited number of procedures to deal with. We also work in the main OR as needed Uggggggg. Most of the time I don't think I'm any different then any other circulator until the **** hits the fan.
I have also gone on a couple interviews and have been offered both positions but stayed in my own little world. Most of the heart team are type A personalities. We might bit*h each other out but it's all good at the end of the day (or week).
