I have had a couple of peole pm me with questions about going back to med school, and there is a thread concerning med school in one of the areas.
I am curious what other nurses think about the nurses who do decide to go to med school?
Also how many nurses have or would consider it?

Thanks for the links to old post but none that you listed or that I was able to find in my own search (which I did before I posted the question) tell me what other nurses attitudes opinions are regarding those who go back.

I will give you my thoughts on this. I think I would view this in a very positive way. I would think that when this med-student RN became a doctor- they might have more understanding on what it is like to be a nurse and communicate better with the nursing staff to better help their patient. Good luck in whatever you career you pursue.

As long as you remember your roots, you cannot help but be a superb doctor!!!!
You asked if we would do this??? I only speak for myself. I would *never* undertake this. Residency would kill me (literally)-- and I like being home w/my family too much for that. That and I am debt-free regarding my schooling/education and am facing educating my kids in a few short years. So monies I need to spend on college are going to have to be directed THEIR way, not mine. Attending Med school is a sure-fire way for me to get into a debt I could not pay off. But like I said, this is just me..........
I wish you well in your new career------I hope your dreams come true.

One of the best doctors I know used to be the charge nurse on our surgical floor (20 Years ago!). She was a great nurse, and it has certainly made a difference in how she relates to patients, compared to the other doctors I know. She is always friendly and professional, just like she was before med school. She said her nursing background was very beneficial during her medical education.
