CU Spring 2012 Applicants

Since we're getting close to the end I thought I would start this thread. Please introduce yourselves and add any updates as you get them from CU.

I'm a non-traditional student making a mid-life career change. I used to work in corporate finance for many years. I became a stay at home mom about 8 years ago and then decided to make a major career change into nursing. I completed all my nursing pre-requisites at a local community college. My previous bachelor's degree is in business administration.

Would love to hear from fellow applicants!!!!

I also have been accepted for spring 2012, and the check has not cleared yet. I sent an email to admissions a week ago for a confirmation, and they forwarded it to someone else. I also have left two voice mails with different people. I am somewhat relived that others also have not had the check clear, but still nervous it got lost somehow!

I heard back from the school. The checks will not be deposited until after the Sept 15th deadline, and at that time the student portal will be updated.

Thanks for the update.

Oh good!! Thanks for letting us know....I was getting a little worried!

I just figured out how to check that they have received your tuition deposit in the new student portal.

Click on the finances tab, under finacial aid there is link to the student center.

On the student center page there is a to do list on the right side. Click on details, and under "completed items" you should see the tuition deposit.

Hey All,

Did you receive the latest packet in the mail? Immunizations, etc etc. And the class info? Holy cow... Health Assessments 6 chapter homework week 1! Yikes!

Yup, I got mine in the mail too. Read everything last night and getting everything pulled together. Luckily, I've got all my immunization information at work; I'll ask employee health to fill it out and sign off on it. I'm buying all my textbooks on Amazon this weekend so I can start reading.

Got mine too :) I started buying the textbooks, but wow there are a lot of them. I wish the big ones were available as a ebooks. I travel for work, so that will be a lot of heavy books to drag along. Is orientation 2 days, or do we go to one or the other? It looks like both, but the acceptance letter said orientation was on Jan 11.

I plan to keep reviewing A&P to get ready. I took it in 2010, and it was so much information I do not think I retained it all that well.

Good idea about reviewing. I need to start doing that. Anyone want to get together and go over some things? Quiz each other? Just a thought.

I bought my books today off Amazon. Just a heads up, they are getting more expensive everyday. I put them in my cart last night, thinking I was going to buy them and today three of them had increased in price.

I would imagine orientation is just one day and maybe we are supposed to choose one. Not really sure about that. Maybe I will email the school and ask.

I'd recommend looking on alibris.com! I found a lot of the books on there to be cheaper than on amazon. That's a good idea to review A&P...I'm sure that will be really helpful for health assessment.

I ordered my books and should get them on Wednesday. After speaking to a nursing student from Regis last week, I also bought a medical dictionary, nursing diagnosis book, and pharmacology cards. She said she uses the nursing diagnosis book a lot since nursing terminology is so different from medical terminology that we've already learned.

I ordered my books from a combination of Albris, ebay, half.com and Amazon. I have picked up some study guides for patho and pharm. I was thinking of getting a nursing diagnosis book.

Any current UC Denver students lurking here that can recommend study guides that mesh well with classes? Also how important are the CDs that come with some of the books? Used books are a lot cheaper, but usually don't have the CD.
