CU Spring 2012 Applicants

Since we're getting close to the end I thought I would start this thread. Please introduce yourselves and add any updates as you get them from CU.

I'm a non-traditional student making a mid-life career change. I used to work in corporate finance for many years. I became a stay at home mom about 8 years ago and then decided to make a major career change into nursing. I completed all my nursing pre-requisites at a local community college. My previous bachelor's degree is in business administration.

Would love to hear from fellow applicants!!!!

Hi future students. I'm just gearing up to graduate CU in 5 weeks, it goes by quick!! I never used the CDs for the earlier classes, but for some of your classes later on in the program they could be required. The CDs do have a lot of practice questions on them so if that's how you like to study you may want to get them.

For Patho I recommend a great book by one of the CU professors: Handbook of Pathophysiology by Elizabeth Corwin. You can get it on Amazon for as cheap as $5 and it's a very concise, excellent review of patho. I never read the text, I just went off of this book.

I would take the medical dictionary back. I bought one and never cracked it open once. That's what google is for :) However, I would HIGHLY recommend a nursing diagnosis book, you'll be doing lots and lots of care plans.

Hope that helps.

Any thoughts on apps for iphone or ipods? I thought about getting some sort of nursing "software" for my ipod that might replace the diagnosing book.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info cdidis!

I got my textbooks yesterday. Holy crap. I don't know how we are going to take them to class every week. Some of them are huge. I hope that we don't have to lug them around to class.

They opened enrollment early! It was not supposed to open until 08:00, and one of the lab sections I really needed to get was full at 07:40 :-(

Chyna016,

The same thing happened to me too!!!! I really needed the health Assesment lab that was from 1-6p on Mondays! I had to pick the Thursday 7a-12p lab instead, my schedule is all over the place now. Oh well its a learning experience for next time thats for sure! What is your schedule like?

I got one of the last spots in the M 1-6 Health Assessment lab, but had to do the Thur AM fundamentals lab.

I was hoping to only have class three days a week, so I would have an easier time with my work schedule. I know I can make it work, I just may have to be a little more creative with my work schedule.
