Hello All!
My name is Patrick. I am 35 and will graduate with a BSN next spring 2019.
I am very interested in attending CRNA school and I worry my age can be a factor for admission.
This post is to inquire about current or future CRNA candidate's resume more specifically:
How old were you at the time of acceptance?
what was your overall gpa?
what score did you get on the GRE?
How many years did you spend in the ICU?
Would you recommend taking part of research to boost my application?
Would you recommend volunteer work to boost my application?
Did you pass the NCLEX on the first attempt?
Very Important: what is the fastest way to get to the ICU? (I was recommended to take part of the New Grad Star program)
Thank you very much for your input. It will be very much appreciated by me.
Best Regards,
Patrick

~~28 years old
~~ Cumulative was low like
~~308 and 4 in writing
I applied with 6 years
~~I didn't but I'm sure it would only improve your chances
~~If you want to volunteer, more power to you; however, I can't see how or why a CRNA program would care.
~~Yes
~~I was accepted into an ICU right away. I had great references and experience as a STNA.
Thank you for your response.
Do you believe age is a deciding factor by the admission committee?
Thx again for your input.

It can be but generally not. How old are you? Most SRNA's are between 25-35, but a fair amount are older than that as well.
Im 35. By the time i apply i may be 40
My partner graduated anesthesia school at 43, and I had a coworker that was 47 in a program. Go for it.
Thank you ICUman.
One last question: do you feel your ICU experience helped you in anyWAY FOR the CRNA program?
Thanks a million.
Very much appreciated
I am not in a CRNA program, rather preparing to apply. Yes, ICU experience gives you the basis to succeed and familiarize yourself with much of what is needed during the program. Specifically medications, hemodynamics, codes, etc.

I'll play, I am not in a CRNA program but I am in the application process.
Not accepted yet but currently 34 and expect to start when I'm 35 (hopefully), I got my paramedic at 25 and my RN at 31.
what was your overall GPA?
Overall 3.18, Science 3.79, Last 60 hrs 3.8
298, 153V 145Q 3.5W
Currently at 2 1/2 years in a Med-Surg-Neuro ICU
Would you recommend taking part in research to boost my application?
I haven't except for what was required for my BSN. Some schools look at this as a plus and others don't even look at it.
It wouldn't hurt. As with research, some schools want volunteer work and others don't mention it.
Yes, all 265 questions of that damn test. Also passed my CCRN on the first try as well. If you are serious about CRNA then get your CCRN.
PICU-Murse, ICUMan, and CowboyMedic,
Thank you very much for your input.
I was thinking about the CCRN certificate. Its good you brought that up.
Thank you all.

I applied with 10 years
Not really. sciences more than anything else if you want to boost your app
~~not really. none of the applications i did for any school had a volunteer spot other than resume maybe
~~Not sure what new grad star is, but if it's gives you a job in the ICU, then do that. Otherwise, apply to hospitals anywhere that have ICU open...the higher acuity the better.
