Cost of Online classes at EC

Just enrolled at EC & have been excited for the past week to get started from LPN to RN program. Now I'm in a cold sweat when I finally found the cost of online classes. Is it really $300 per credit hour -meaning 3 credits is $300. not including books or taking exams? So it ends up to be $18K not including books or exams. Please tell me that I am wrong. And there is no $$ help with the AS/AAS program.

That is the cost of online classes. Most people transfer in classes that they have already taken at other colleges. Or you can take CLEP or DANTES tests, both also cheaper. Go the cheap route and take needed general ed classes at your local community college if you haven't done so already.

are you just looking at your rn, or are you looking at the bsn as well? i was very confused when i got started too...for the rn program, the cost of the class is the cost of the exam you take at pearson plus whatever resources you choose to study for that exam such as textbooks, practice exams through ec, study guides through other resources. so, for example, my microbiology class has cost me (so far) $342.95: pearson exam, practice test, textbook off of ebay, study guide 101 notes. so, all in all, it won't cost me much more than my local community college. you cannot use title iv funding for this program because of the self-paced nature.

once you get your rn and go for the bsn and beyond, the classes are "traditional" online classes with meeting times, assignments and such, so you will pay for the class by the hour. those programs are also eligible for title iv funding.

Your looking at the cost of the online classess. The RN program is a test out system NOT online classess so your lookin to spend about $240 per test. The CPNE is $1950. I do beleive everything just went up in price so just call EC. I spent roughly $8500 on books, test(retook 2),all the practice test,CPNE and airplane tickets and hotel for me and my husband. I think about $500 of that I wasted on useless products on ebay.So you might ideally spend $7500.

Tuition goes up in July, I believe.

I have found EC to be much cheaper than my local CC, which is very high compaired to other states. What I pay for 1 test is about equivilant to 1 credit hour at the local CC. I've been able to pay for EC out of pocket vs the student loan I have hanging over my head from the local CC.

Can someone please tell me what Information Literacy is and is the cost of the course cheaper at EC or would you advise me to take it at my local cc? If I did take it at my local cc, under what heading would I look for it in the course catalog?

Info literacy is an EC course that they require everyone to take. I haven't heard of anyone getting out of taking it thru EC. It is a computer course, and and absolute no-brainer. It's pass/fail. I don't think there is an equivalent at any cc. They made Suesquatch take it and she's a computer programmer.

If you do a search on "Penn Foster" in these forums, you'll find info on an alternative course that is less expensive and has been approved by EC in lieu of Info Lit. The only way you can get out of the Info Lit requirement is if you've taken an equivalent course elsewhere, or if you have a Masters. Good luck.

I'd go for the Penn foster class and save some money.
