i am starting the lpn fast track at gateway in august. orientation is not until the day before class starts and i kind of want to get an idea of what my out of pocket is going to be for books and uniforms. also, did you purchase every book that was on the list? or, were some of them not really needed?
thanks for the info!

I haven't attended Apollo, but I will say, if I were you I would contact the teachers specifically and ask which ones are required. The teacher is the one who has overall say and typically those lists are made by the school/ bookstore to make profit.
To save a little money I'd recommend using Amazon.com (look in their used books section- I got one of my $130 PSY books for $31 and that was with expedited shipping!) Bigwords.com also has AWESOME deals! Look around online for cheaper books b/c the bookstore just jumps the prices b/c they can! Good luck at Apollo though :)

There is a BOOK BOX & Lab Kit w/bag that you get for the PN Program. $600 for both is what it cost me last semester. ( Yes you need all of the books in there) Uniforms were pretty cheap, white pants $6(from Ross) hunter green top with the school logo $16-$20 from apparel pro ( you have to go there). I recommend getting two sets, if you are in the day program as clinical is two days in a row. Also, invest in a recorder for lectures, you are GOING to need it and a binder to keep your notes, handouts, powerpoints, focus sheets... etc!
Thanks AZMOM02!
I bought several pairs of white pants for my CNA clinicals in February, counting on the fact that I would need them at a later date. $600 isn't as bad as I thought it would be...whew! I had talked to a neighbor who graduated from the RN program at Gateway a few years ago and she was saying that books were over $1000, so I was freaking out a little! I am paying for everything myself and so the budget is a little tight. I had counted on $500 or so, so $600 isn't too bad. Didn't think of the recorder though, will definately get one!
Thanks again!
Well since $600 includes the lab kit, and the LPN is Blocks 1 & 2 and the RN is Blocks 3 & 4... at another $500 for the RN books, I'd say there is the $1000 so that makes sense to me!
The $1000, I was told, was just for the books & stuff for block one, so if the $600 covers both blocks 1 & 2, that is even better! Anyway, I am much relieved!

Just fyi, the $1000 for books is for all 4 blocks, and I have used every book that I bought. Good luck with your lpn program.

The books and tote are available in the bookstore at Gateway already. I may just get mine before orientation so I can look thru them. I think its going to be just over $500 for the books + tote.
Get it early if you can and get familiar with the books in there espeically on how to use the Drug book. The text book for the course is for both semesters and the weight alone is crazy! The good thing is the lab kit is filled with lots of cool "toys", can't wait to use second semester's "toys" soon!
Just FYI to those of you who are wanting to get their books early, I ordered the PN package online and it came today. The tote didn't come, as they are unable to ship so have to go in to purchase at the bookstore. Anyway, I went thru all the books and software and you can save almost $100 by going thru barnes and noble or amazon. Actually, B&N was cheaper than amazon if you are a member. Wish I wouldn't have ordered online, and gone into the bookstore first, but thought I was saving time. The thing is, I had no idea what I was ordering as the gateway bookstore only says PN package and does not list the books individually. Should have just gone in. Oh well, live and learn. End up having to go in anyway to return the books and buy the tote.
Also, one of the books is the Saunder's NCLEX-PN review, 3rd edition. I already have the 4th edition, which I purchased earlier this summer. So, if any of you had already purchased one earlier like I did, you can save $40 and not have to get the one in the PN package.

Havent attended this school, but Half.com is also a pretty good place to find deals on books. Good luck!
