Hi, I'm a little confused on the LPN programs vs. the RN programs in the Detroit area. Right now I'm taking the CNA course and will be working at a hospital upon completion. I'm in Wayne county so I'm planning on going into the nursing program at WCCCD. I know this program will allow me to take the RN test afterwards but I was wondering how do I become a LPN first while taking the classes to be a RN? I can't seem to find that information anywhere. It seems all the programs around here are for RN. Help. Thanks.

Some ADN programs allow you to sit for the NCLEX-PN after the first year of school. I can only think of one that does that on the west side of the state, don't know about the east side. Sorry.

I would call the nursing department at WCCCD and see what they say about it.

I think the programs that allow you to be an LPN after the first year are considered "laddered" nursing programs. The first year is the LPN year and the second you complete your RN. I think Lansing Community College does this, but I don't know about any in the metro Detroit area.
