Compass Test

I am planning to take this in a few weeks as part of my application to lpn school! Math scares the you know what out of me, and I just found this test-prep website online, but I am wondering....are you allowed to use a calculator????

I am sure that you are able to use a calculator, we used calculators in all the math classes I took in college. Good luck and see if you can't get any math help at your school to help you prepare:)

At my school we could use a caculator for the Compass test. It was one they provided for us. It just did the basics: add, subtract, multiply and divide. When I took mine, the testing center gave me 2 web sites to go to so I could brush up on my math skills. That helped, but I still had to take one remedial math course. (not too bad I thought since I had been out of school for 12 years)

I couldn't. They gave me a pencil and some paper. It's just an assessment of your ability to place you where you need to be.

I had to take the Compass test to get into R.N. school last summer. It'll only test you over reading comprehension and math. The math was just basic math, algebra, and maybe a little triganomitry, no calculus or geometry. I was allowed a calculator as well as a pencil and paper to work out the math problems. Also, I was not timed, which helped greatly in taking off some of the anxiety. Since you take it on the computer, you'll get your results back right away, so you'll know if you'll need remedial or not. Hope you do well. :)

When I took the Compass, a calculator was available as a link on your actual exam (taken on the computer obviously). Prior to the exam, I went to the bookstore and they have a bunch of preperation type books for math exams -they don't specifically state they are for a compass exam but pretty much all the same - I studied out of those and ended up testing out of all my math courses through the compass exam! Most bigger chain bookstores have a lot to choose from (and also have a little place to drink coffee and eat goodies!!) so I would just take a notebook, calculator and pen with me and study for an hour or two a couple times a week - stinks having to study BEFORE you get into your classes but when you have the oportunity to test out of those classes - makes it worthwhile!! Thanks everyone for the useful information! I am so glad to hear that it is not timed, and most people could use a calculator! I began studying the algebra section last night-ugh! need to work on that a little before I call to schedule my exam. Nicolemy- you had a great idea to go and look over text at a book store- I would just be worried that I wasn't studying much relevant information. Who knows-maybe my books store will have a book specifically designed for this test. Thanks again.
