college park?

I lived in East Point in the 80's and my parents grew up there, but I would not want to live there now. It is a pretty depressed area. My ex hubby worked at the main hospital there at the time and I would eat dinner with him occasionally and he had to constantly leave to go answer a code. I have never seen so many people code at one hospital in my life! Atlanta is not an inexpensive place to live, but coming from Chicago, you may not notice much difference. I personally liked the northeast side of town. There are more employment and housing options. Lawrenceville, Duluth are good family areas with good schools, lots of apartments, shopping and good hospitals. You have quick access to an interstate (during non peak hours) and can zip into Atlanta fairly quickly (also in non peak hours). The hospitals in easy commute are Gwinnett Medical Center and Joan Glancy, but you are in a reasonable commute to Emory, Dekalb Medical Center, Northside, St. Josephs and several other smaller hospitals. If you get too far north into Dunwoody, Alpharetta, you have entered the official high rent district, but a lot of singles like it because there are tons of apartments, clubs, shopping, etc. and it is a quick trip into Atlanta if you use the toll road. The worse part about Atlanta is the traffic. 285 is the circullar interstate around Atlanta and you are either going 85 MPH while travelling on someones bumper or you are sitting at a dead stop, not much in between. Obviously the closer you can live to work, the better. Good luck in your search. There are lots of really good hospitals in the area with comparable payrates and shift diffs. They vary so much with experience, I can't begin to help you with that, but see if you can get a Sunday paper classified section to get an idea.

i am looking to relocate from chicago il. how is college park area and east point. what hospitals are around? how is the base pay shift diffs? what are some good areas to move into in atlanta with decent rent, and for young adults?

I lived in College Park back in the late 80's, early 90's back when I was a college student and I wouldn't live there now. Although some parts of it are going through regentrification, it is still not a place I want to live. The two main hospitals in that area would be either South Fulton or Southern Regional. I worked at Southern Regional many years, it is okay. I think Roswell or parts of Cobb County might be nice for young people but I honestly don't know. The traffic is horrible all over so you will not get a break there.

Definately stick to the northeast side of Atlanta...the further south you go, well, the further south you go :)

I know firsthand that there are quite a few upscale subdivisions on the southside but these are in the Lithonia or Snellville area. So, although I know the northside has attractive living areas so does the south. The average home can spand from a small ranch style home to the mid $400,000s. Just didn't want you to get the impression that there is nothing in the southside of Atlanta.

My sister-in-law stays in Conyers, Ga, it's about 20 minutes from downtown right off of I20. Her neighborhood is beautiful....but pricey (her house list at $300,00) but there are alot of apartments and townhomes aroung there also.

Both Lithonia and Snellville are EAST of Atlanta. If I really wanted to live south of the city, I would choose Henry County or Newnan. Fayetteville is supposed to be nice too with nice schools but pricey.

HI !!!!!!! I was borned and raised here in Atlanta, sho nuff !! I live on the north side now, but have lived on the east and south side of Atlanta. Love the north side the best. Roswell/Alpharetta area very nice. Check out North Fulton Regional hospital. Cherokee county nice, taxes are less, but look at southeast area of cherokee county. Avoid living in fulton county. You will be able to find houses in any price range in any area around and in Atlanta. Good luck.

I am interested in moving to stockbridge, Ga is it a good place to raise a family, does it have a good school district. How is the housing and what is the pay for nurses!! Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
