I am doing my preceptorship and we had a code blue on someone else's patient . I did CPR but then noticed my pants got wet from his blood coming out of his IV. He was not contact precautions but he was positive for staph when I looked at his chart. I was wondering if that is common, and if I shouldn't worry.
Thank you!

What specifically are you worried about? If you're doing your preceptorship, that would mean that you're almost done with nursing school, yes? What have you been taught about blood borne pathogens?

Did you report the exposure per your school and/or agency policy? If not, you should do so as soon as possible.

Chare is correct. Check on the facility policy as well as you schools policy on blood borne pathogen. You likely have nothing to worry about.

Just as an fyi, blood onto intact skin is not an exposure.
