I'm signed up to take my CMSRN exam 12/13/14 I am super nervous I've heard it is a very hard test. Any test taking strategies are advise from those who have taken it? Is it like the nclex? What should I expect? Help!

I just took the exam last month and passed. Was also very nervous! Questions are much more straight forward than NCLEX. Best prep is getting the review question and answer book from their site. It is comprehensive and gives a good indication of what to expect on the exam. good luck!

I am planning on taking this test sometime in the first half of 2015. I only know a few people who've taken it, and they all passed. I'm quite sure I'll be nervous taking it, too. I'll probably order a review book from amazon.com. 12/13/14 sounds like a lucky date...so I wish you luck.

A bit more in-depth than the nclex. I see why they asked for experience. Study systems and common disease of. The test question is handy because it shows weaknesses, therefore, helping you focus your studying
Really appreciate the advice so far Thanks so much!
I bought the review book off the AMSN site and also the review questions but I'm not sure I will get the review questions in time as it is on back order. I've been trying to review all systems and practice questions with my NCLEX books. I've only been an RN for 3 years so hopefully I've had enough exposure. I'm scared the test will be more trick questions like the nclex. Hoping it will be more straight forward. I'll keep you updated!
It has the typical "pick your best answer" thing going on, like any other nursing test.
One thing they do is give you a realllly long situation and then the answers. Imo, read the answers and see what they are looking for, then go back and read the question. I had a few just like that and I would have wasted a lot of time studying vitals, symptoms when all the question asked was about incentive spirometers! All that other stuff was worthless to the answer

My job asked the nurses to get certified, so I did. I was the 1st one at my hospital that took the test. I took the CMSRN test and passed in Oct 2013, however, my job doesn't accept the medical-surgical board credentials. I was told I would have to take the test with the ANCC in order to be recognized and get $1200.00 dollars more a year. Very frustrated, these test are very expensive. I would have to pay $395.00 to take ANCC. I just want to tell other nurses out there make sure what your hospital requires before applying for the certification test.
That is silly! Why didn't they tell you that before??
Wow, I just took the practice exam on the amsn website and got a 56%! Should I be worried?
Not worry, but take note of weak areas and study.
Thanks the practice exam had weird terms I had never heard of and I still don't remember all the specific diets for each disease. Hoping I pass!
Have you studied at all? When do you sit for the exam?
