classical guitarists?

Published

hey just wondering if any of you are classical guitarists? i was wondering whether hospital fingernail regulations affect you at all. i'm not sure how strict most places are but it sounds like some have pretty strict rules. i imagine that typical guitarist nails might be a little too long?

All my hospital's policy says is that nails must be neatly trimmed and clean. I know some Rn's who keep their nails fairly long and nothing is said.

"back in the day" this may have been an issue, now days i think the only spot that may present a prob would be the OR and maybe NICU

How do you play guitar with long nails???

I play some, not classical, but I always have to keep my nails short.

How does that work?

Oh, so your right handed and your nails are your pick?

Interesting

That's awesome! I play in church. I reek. It's proof that Christians are good and loving because no one throws anything at me.

I strum only. I'm lucky I can get that much done. I keep nails on both hands very short.

I am a finger-picking guitarist. I've always had flimsy nails, however, but I make up for it by having an extremely high quality guitar. Also, I have a top of the line 12 string and long nails aren't so great for the 12 string, in my opinion.

oh yea for those that don't know, classical guitar requires nails on the right hand. you use all of your fingers for picking. left hand stays trimmed as short as possible but the right hand needs to be properly trimmed to a specific length and polished to play properly. they have to be long enough to pick but short enough that they don't lose accuracy. just wonderin if this was ever an issue for anyone with hospital policies.

My hospital's policy is that nails be no more than 1/4" long.

I love classical guitar, by the way.
