Class of 2015

Congrats to all those that are accepted and will be the class of 2015. I thought it would be nice to have our own thread where we can support each other along our journey. Mine is an ADN program, but I know some will be BSN as well.

With all that aside has anyone had their nursing orientation yet? How was it? What are some of the costs you have to dish out? Did it finally sink in that you will be starting nursing school soon?

Mine isn't until May 29th 9a-3p. I do know that our tops will be white and our bottoms will be green. I also know we are required to have an iPad which is included in our financial aid. I also know I have to pay $66.00 just for the drug test. The program pays for our in state CORI/SORI but I had to pay for my out of state one which was $31.00. I just payed for that today. We will be required to buy the books, stethoscope, name pin, uniforms, warm up jacket, lab coat, and more. So exciting. We will also schedule our classes on orientation day.

Lets get to know each other so we can support each other :)

Hello class of 2015!!

I was accepted into the ADN program at La County College of Nursing & Allied Health. My official start date is August 19th but have registration week starting August 12th.

I recently ordered my all black, comfy shoes. We were told our shoes had to be all black or all white. Our scrubs are navy blue & will have the school emblem as well as a stripe to represent our current semester. I ordered two sets to begin with which came out to about $150. I also ordered my stethoscope from Medisave.net & got a discount from their Facebook page(:

Tuition is $2400 a semester but they have a contract in which you are only required to pay $700/semester & once you graduate you have the option of paying off your debt in total or you may chose to give monthly payments. OR you can agree to work for any of the LA county hospitals for 3 years & your debt will be paid for! I mean not only will your debt be forgiven but you will have 3 years of experience under your belt. Sounds like a great deal to me(:

I just received my financial aid award letter the other day. I was awarded the pell grant & will be receiving about $2000 each semester.

I paid $60 for CPR training. We need to have our BLS card for healthcare providers by August but I figured i would just get it done already since I am on summer vacation & have nothing to do.

I am currently waiting for my background check & physical exam appointments. I also plan on reviewing my medical terminology textbook starting tomorrow.

If all goes well I will graduate May of 2015. I am so excited & can not wait to start the program! :D

I'm getting so excited! Yes I'm a dork. I picked up my first giant binder and it has flowers on it, and I spent today organizing my binder with tabs and paper, got all my highlighters all lined up, got my multi-ink color pen and my post-it flags. My desk is ready, my work space is almost completely ready, after I hang some peaceful pictures. You know, so I don't go crazy in there. :wacky: Next week is immunizations  And a visit to the scrub shop for uniforms, and a shoe store for acceptable shoes. Only 57 days til class starts!!! :nailbiting:[/quote']

Congrats! I start In August & I can not wait! I'm so excited!!

Was supposed to finish my ASN in Dec of '14 but I broke my leg in Feb and it put me back a semester so I will hopefully be graduating in May of '15. Can't wait! I've already been thru my first semester, so... buckle down ladies and gents, you're in for a crazy, fun ride!![/quote']

So sorry that happened to you!

I'm excited to start in August & I don't know if it just hasn't hit me yet but I'm not as nervous as I thought I would be. I'm ready to take on this crazy, fun ride! (:

glopez, I think it is so cool that you can agree to work for a hospital for 3 years and have your debt forgiven. Especially because I have heard that LA is a tough market for new grad nurses, so ensuring that you get 3 years of experience is a godsend!

I am glad to see I'm not the only one freaking out! I just turned 19 on June 17th and I'm a guy, so I'm really going to stick out in my cohort. I get along well with anybody so I'm not worried about that, and I have my CNA so I don't think first semester will be too foreign to me, but the anxiety of starting is just killing me. My cousin just graduated the program this May, and I have been asking her questions like crazy. I asked her what I should do to prepare for first semester, and she told me to ask my doctor for a Xanax prescription. Haha!

By the way, why are some of y'all's orientations happening so soon? I got my acceptance letter in April, and our orientation isn't until mid-August, like a week before the semester begins. Perhaps some of y'all's programs begin in the summer, but if not.. why are the orientations for the fall semester happening in the summer? Seems like it could be easy to forget what was learnt during the orientation.

My orientation is two weeks before class starts too. But we did get a list of stuff to do on certifiedbackground.com like immunizations, drug screen, background check etc. I have my fundamentals book to read beforehand just in case they assign us a bunch of chapters to read. Check out the facebook page for class of 2015. It's a bunch of schools, not one in particular and we are just there to support one another and already becoming friends!

Yeah, we have had to do a background check, drug test, and turn in shot records over the summer as well.

Is the Facebook page a page, or a group? And what is the link?

It's a closed group, the original poster here, MommaTy, started it. So if you send her a PM here on allnurses she will add you to the facebook group.

MommaTy can you check your fb messages? I messaged you and it said it went to your other inbox.

My orientation is August 20th and I couldn't be more excited! I'm attempting to patently wait for our reading list, it's extremely difficult!

Agreed. It would be nice if they had included this information in our acceptance letters, so we would have the summer to read them.

I'm starting my BSN program this August and I'm pretty excited and nervous at the same time. So far it has been pretty expensive, buying the stethoscope, uniforms, otoscope, uniforms, physical, and drug screening. Our last orientation is July 16th which will basically cover how to wear our uniform and how to behave at clinical sites, we were told to bring our support system so they can explain to them how our time with them will be limited. I know I'm ready I'm just trying to prepare myself for the stress!! Good luck to everyone
