Hi. My husband is possibly going to take a job in Cincinnati. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what or where some of the nursing schools are at and if they have waiting lists. Thanks...

I was interested in finding out about practical nursing programs at either community colleges or private schools.. I guess rn programs too would be helpful.. Thanks

Hello. I just graduated from the Great Oaks School of Practical Nursing. I did a FT LPN class in 44 weeks at the Laurel Oaks campus. I highly recommend them. They have mutiple classes, starting throughout the year. What part of town will you be living in? N,S,E or West?

LPN school is definitely easier to get into than an RN program. The only school I know of that doesn't have a wait list is a hospital based program and they choose not to do wait lists.
I just graduated with Laverty 3 weeks ago and thought it was a good program as well. They have full and part time programs at different campus'. So far, everyone that I know of that has taken the NCLEX from our class has passed it.
I am heading back to school tomorrow to start on my RN. Easier to get into once you have your LPN and I can work as a nurse while doing it.
Good luck...

I believe that Xavier University (near the hospitals on Martin Luther King Drive) offers a 'new' RN nursing program (2 year). There is the University of Cincinnati School of Nursing. Brown Mackie, where I am trying to enroll at, offers a practical nursing program, and I imagine Cincinnati State does, as well, but I've not checked out Cincinnati State. I live in SE Indiana, over an hour west of Cincy... Good luck in your career path!

Another option is Christ Hospital's nursing program. You work for the hospital for a set number of years after the program and they pay for your school. Check it out online
I checked them out online and will be calling them tomorrow morning to get the particulars.
Good luck with whichever school you choose!

I go to Christ now. It's awesome, I really like it there. The professors are wonderful, and really really work together. Brown Mackie.. is VERY EXPENSIVE! I looked into the oaks lpn vs brown mackie.. Oaks tuition was like 8000, and brown mackie was 20000.
Good Luck

Is Christ accredited [through one of the major accrediting agencies]? I had a mtg. w/ an admissions rep @ Good Samaritan Hospital's nursing school last week, and the guy told me that Christ Hospital "isn't accredited but is working on it...":uhoh21: I have plans on attending an open house that Christ Hospital's nursing school is sponsoring--this Thursday evening.
Do they pay for all of your tuition if you are accepted into their nursing program, etc.? This is a big decision for me (as it is for anyone else trying to get on with their careers/lives...)
Simply put, Brown Mackie is way too expensive to justify going there, especially concerning their medical assisting program. GSH's cost is $10,000 a year (it's a 2-year Associate Degree program), and this wouldn't include getting the pre-requisites out of the way. I could take the PR's at Ivy Tech, as long as they're fully accredited, which they've assured me that they are, but I still feel inclined to get verbal affirmation over the telephone...
GSH's nursing program has a $400 matriculation fee: Approximately $150 of it goes towards a physical exam administered by the Occupational Health department; the remainder is considered a "good faith estimate."
I'm still negotiating; I'm actually "waffling" about my decision (or lack thereof) about what I really would like to do as far as pursuing a career in healthcare is concerned.
Good luck to everyone struggling on making a decision!

Id like to put my vote in for Mount St. JOe! It is a private school and its wonderful! Small classes, great staff. If you want personal attention you will get it there. The tuition is high, however, there are more options for fin. aid.
As fas as I have heard, Christ is not accredited yet but were supposed to be around fall of 07. They will pay for your school if you make a 2 yr committment to them. I am suprised at GSH tuition as I had heard from one of their students that the tuition was much higher than that. I did a ton of clinicals there so I would always run into their students. Cincy state has a waiting list years long. Ridiculous! Xavier is an awesome school as well, MSJ and XU are very similar, we did a lot with them. UC has an ADN program at Raymond Walters as well as a BSN. I havent heard wondeful things about their ADN program but I have heard good things about thier BSN program. I have heard BAD BAD BAD things about Brown Mackie, i'd stay away from there. Generally, I have heard good things about Christ but it has its drawbacks. Good luck!
Well.. sadly Christ is not accredited yet.... since it's a "new college". I'm in the first class of the adn program. Which means.. NO federal aide.. which kinda bites.... I heard that once the 1st class graduates.. then they will be able to apply for accrediation...
They will pay for all your tuition (20000) if you sign a 3 year commitment.. but they don't pay for books, uniforms, and I believe that there was a 300 dollar fee upfront to hold my spot( if I remember correctly). I already work for the Health Alliance.. over 9 years now.. so I'm not going anyway... But you can always.. sign the agreement, and then buy it out when you are finished with the school.. think of it as a 2 year intrest free loan.. or you can always see if another hospital will buy it out... I heard that childrens will( not sure for how much, time agreement.. stuff like that).
But I honestly really really like it here.. I still sit in class some days and smile to myself.. happy that I got in, and I'm finally doing it!
It's tough.. I'm in class everyday.. and there are days.. I just dont' want to be there.... But that I think is how life it anyways...
Hope I helped you some.. you can pm me if you like.
Good Luck:balloons:
