Chemistry...

I started a chemistry class last week because I failed my chemistry class last semester. I am so stressed out over it because I am terrible at chemistry. I did well in A&P1/2-B and Microbiology-A but I struggle so much with chemistry. I am nervous that I won't pass and will have to retake the class again in the Fall, thus pushing back my graduation date a full year. Maybe I should change to a Public Health major? Any advice?!

What about chemistry was hard? The math part when you balance equations? There has to be some sort of free tutoring available at your school. I think that might help a lot. Also talk with the instructor. Sometimes they hold study sessions if a student is interested.

Please, if nursing is truly what you want to do, do not change your major. Don't change your major just because of chem. I struggled with chemistry as well as did many others and they made it. So can you.

Does your school offer tutoring? Maybe you can find a group to study with within your class or maybe you can even get a private tutor. Where there is will there is a way. You can do this.

YouTube may be helpful as well. Other people have different ways of breaking things down that may be more helpful than your professor.

Don't give up!

Yeah, it's the math that is difficult for me to grasp. Balancing equations, sig-figs etc. I hope the math slows down and it becomes more memorization or something.

Thank you for the encouragement. I will do my best.

I will say that the dimensional analysis you learn in chemistry will be essential to solving dosage questions in med math, especially drip rates. As suggested above, definitely look in to the tutoring available at your school. It will help make the math more understandable.

I signed up for Chem last fall and was informed on Day 1 that it was no longer required for the nursing program, unless I planned to go for my BSN. I was able to drop it. I was so stressed out about it...more so than any class I've taken or will take. Best of luck to you! You can do it!
