Was hoping you helpful nurses on AN would take a look at my answers for these calculations. Thanks!
A patient with an acute infection is to receive Pfizerpen 800 mg IM upon admission to the hospital. Pfizerpen one million units is available. After reconstitution with 1.8 mLof sterile water, each mL will contain 500 mg. How many mL will the nurse administer?
800mg mL = 1.6 mL
A patient with fluid-overload & congestive heart failure needs Lasix. The doctore has ordered Lasix 30 mg IV push over 2 minutes. Lasix 10 mg/mL is available. How many mL/minute are to be administered?
30 mg mL = 1.5 mL/min
The nurse receives an order for a patient to have Heparin 25,000 units in 250 mL D5w infusing at 50 mL/hr. How many units per hour will the patient receive?
25000 units 50 mL = 5000 units/hr
A patient with an infection has an order for erythromycin 500 mg IV every 6 hours. The pharmacy sends a vial labeled: Erythromycin 1 gram. The nursing drug reference provides information to reconstitute 1 gram of erythromycin with 20 mL of sterile water, and then add the reconstituted medication to 250 mL of 0.9% NS and to infuse over 1 hr. How many mL will the nurse draw from the vial after reconstitution?
500 mg 20 mL 1g = 10 mL
