Can anyone tell me about the process of switching VA facilities? Are you typically brought on as the same grade as step or do they reevaluate?

From what I understand as long as you are not out of the VA for less than 1 year you will not need to reboard.

You will only be boarded again if you separate from the system for 1 year. I transitioned from Staff nurse to Nurse practitioner and they didn't re-board me. All they did was take my step and grade and switch me to that same step and grade on the NP scale.

Is there anyway to get boarded again other than leaving the system for a year?
I didn't know anyone in the VA when I entered and came in under boarded with the promise of a reevaluation in 6 months that never occurred. I am now one of the most educated and experienced nurses in my unit, and the lowest paid. It's very frustrating as the NPSB at my facility doesn't believe in promoting anyone but their friends.

I have switched facilities directly and kept the same grade/step. I'm curious to know about the greater then 1 year thing.
The one year is if you leave the VA and then return before one year you do not have to be boarded and will stay at the same pay scale. If you return after one year you will have to be reboarded and could end up with a higher or lower grade.
