So I recently got accepted into Chamberlain college of nursing. I have to complete a drug test and background check soon. Does anyone know what kind of drug test it is? Urine, hair, blood, etc.? I can handle needles but I don't like them in me at all so it would be nice to mentally prepare. Also, is it supervised and does anyone know if they drug test throughout the school year? Thanks!

1) You may not use 'nurse' in your username if you are not one.

2) Your post raises some concern in my mind that you are perhaps trying to avoid detection. If this is the case, let me tell you now that your nursing career is going nowhere fast if you're trying to do this.

Yes, it will be supervised.

It can be any of those options you listed. Usually it is urine. You also can be tested at any point in time randomly throughout nursing school and throughout your career.

If you have recreational habits that are discoverable on this kind of a test and have any concerns about being able to get off those substances long enough to pass both scheduled and random testing, then you are not in the right industry. There are many careers that don't have this requirement. This one does and it comes with it the chance of jail time, personal financial liabilities and the loss of your license. Most seriously though, you will be caring for others, who are trusting you to not be under the influence of recreational substances while in your care.

Get off the drugs first. Go to school once you are over that phase of your life.

Wow. Your name describes you perfectly. I'm sure people love working with you with that attitude. Just FYI don't be so quick to judge. I never once said I take drug or that I was worried about detection, but regardless it's an intimidating thing to have to do. So it's nice to have some information before hand considering they give you minimal information. Thanks so much for your help!!!!!!

Re-read your original post please. Would you not agree that, to the casual observer, it appears you might be asking this for the reasons I mentioned? I never accused you of anything- I merely presented my thoughts in response to a post you made on an internet site having more than a million members. I am pretty sure I'm not the only one to have those thoughts.

And your immediate attack on my 'attitude' is rather telling as well.

What person asks if the UDS is monitored or not??? The *only* people *I* know are those who are those who are trying to pass a drug test when they are dirty. Like my husband's best friend who does coke. He doesn't want to be watched when he urinates why? Because he needs to switch out his urine for someone else's.

If you don't do drugs or have any reason to worry, why worry about being watched? That would be the *only* reason you would be monitored when you urinated.

So chill with the attitude. MMJ was responding to your question.

Nobody does. However, by enrolling in nursing school, you will be agreeing to make yourself available for random drug testing on request, and that will also be condition of any nursing job you take if you make it to the point of getting licensed and working as a nurse. And urine drug tests are typically monitored.

No one, but I've done it multiple times in my life for jobs and military entrance. Sometimes, it's just part of adulting

I've never had a monitored UDS. Unless by monitored you mean by the person stands outside the door. But if you mean someone watching me urinate, then no. I've never had someone come in the bathroom with me while I urinated.
